a little strange for eqers

Post by foeham »

For those that need a little strange from eq , i recommend all out killfest.
i suggest enemy territory, it is free all downloadable , servers are free , and it aumatically downloads new maps when you hook up to a server.
the game is ww2 based , you can play allie or axis , theres 5 classes
soldier.
medic.
engineer.
feild ops.
covert ops.
and yes it is a skill up game in each class.
for a free online game it is awesome.
this is the link for downloading the game and pacth.

Ickhor,

Would you suggest I try it, BF:1942 junkie that I am, or is it pretty much a free version?

It's free, so there's no harm in trying it.

Honestly I liked BF1942 a bit more, but ET is fun too. It doesn't have as much of the LOL PLANES idiots as BF1942 has, and the vehicles are done in a radically different way so there isn't as much whoring of them.

The cool thing that I think ET has is the experience/leveling system. For example, as a covert ops (the spy class), the more levels you have the easier it is to disguise yourself and whatnot, and eventually you get cool skills like backstab. It's nothing like everquest, the top level is 5, and you can reach that within an hour or two of playing, and it isn't persistant (if you leave the server and rejoin, you start again), some servers have persistant mods though. It isn't a huge deal in terms of balance either, if everyone is level 5 and you join at level 1, you'll do just fine.

Oh!

I knew the Wolfenstein 3D multiplayer was released as a freebie. I always meant to check it out, just didn't get around to it.

Downloading it now. How do the maps work? Is it an ongoing slaughterfest or is it cstrike round style or what?

Sort of like BF1942, when you die, you have to wait 20 seconds or so to come back, with the next round of reinforcements.

Covert Ops is fun because you get to steal peoples pants and stab them in the back.

Downloaded and played a bit. Really badass. Artillery is hard to avoid though, especially if yer trying to fire off a Panzerfaust.

I find I can completely dominate a server and singelhandedly stonewall an attacking team with well placed and maintained airstrikes, its pretty overpowered. Use your binoculars (b for default) then simply point the crosshair and fire your attack once and if your target is clear a sustained artillery bombardment will comence in 10 seconds.
Look for chokepoints, map objectives (mainly the tank for quite a few maps) or even rotate spawn bottlenecks. Dont hit the spawn itself people are invincible for a few seconds upon coming to life. You can do this from across a map and in many maps you can hide at a vantage point and keep the strikes going indefinately all you need is Line of sight onto the ground, ledges, structures whatever. You will figure out what you can and cant call strikes on very quickly.
And then the whining begins!
