Disney Buys Lucasfilm. 3+ New Star Wars Movies Planned

Next sequel to continue the story of Luke, Leia and Han after Return of the Jedi.
As long as George Lucas doesn't write the dialog this could be cool.

I wonder if they'll use the Lucasfilm brand to replace Miramax? Could be kinda cool if that's the case.
Disney is still an evil, evil company though.

If anyone here remembers the end of ROTS making of/commentary track.
George is asked "what's next?" He mumbles a bunch of stuff that doesn't make sense (which cues his employees to nervously nod and agree with him, as if he's Dear Leader) and then he's like "OR MAYBE WE COULD SELL TO DISNEY! HURHURHURHUR"

Here is a list of Disney movies that should give you hope that they will make a good star wars movie
1. Eddie Murphy in The Haunted Mansion
2. Cuba Gooding Jr in Snow Dogs
3. Treasure Planet - Because a 17th century pirate story just flows into a 28th century space adventure so well
4. Inspector Gadget
5. The Princess and the Frog - With blah music, and songs, They were going to force an African american princess into thier list of princesses no matter how forced it felt.
6. The Country Bears
7. Brother Bear - Grizzly Adams on Meth
8. Chicken Little
9. Meet the Robinsons
10. Beverly Hills Chihuahua
11. Atlantis: The Lost Empire - Take the hit movie, and tv show Stargate, turn it into a cartoon....make it suck, and you have Atlantis: The Lost Empire.
12. The Santa Clause 2, 3, 8, 643
I sooooo wanted to add - Dwayne the Rock Johnson in the Journey 2: The Mysterious Island...............sadly it was a Warner Bros Movie

Re: Disney Buys Lucasfilm. 3+ New Star Wars Movies Planned
But yeah, I don't think Disney can fuck it up more than the prequels.
It'd actually be pretty funny if they could. I'm past the whole "UR RUINING MY FRANCHISE" stage. After many therapy sessions since The Phantom Menace, I've almost fully recovered. The original star wars films (esp Empire Strikes Back) are too good to be true. Everyone wants the magic of those films again. Not gonna happen. Not unless Disney goes renegade filmmaking and reverts back to ACTORS and practical effects. If someone studied the original films to a science we might get a decent replication. I don't think this is gonna happen. CGI is cheap, and is a familiar format for todays consumers children.
So just plan to sit back and watch some lazer-swordz and kewl CGI. If you see them in 3d, just take the glasses off. Maybe the blurry picture might allow your imagination to take over - making it a much better movie?

I agree. The star trek reboot was fucking awful. the guys they got to play bones, and spock were great, the rest, and the story(time travel AGAIN) sucked worse than Paul Blart - Mall Cop.

Re: Disney Buys Lucasfilm. 3+ New Star Wars Movies Planned
I think calling Mark Hamill an 'actor' is more than a little generous... The truth is that Star Wars wouldn't have been the groundbreaking phenomenon it was without the visual effects. Yeah, the plot was good and the acting wasn't too bad, but it was the effects that really made it such a success. But if you re-watch them, it's hard not to laugh at some of Hamill's scenes. Not unless Disney goes renegade filmmaking and reverts back to ACTORS and practical effects.

I loved the new Star Trek movie, but I'm not a Trekkie at all so that could have something to do with it. I'm not that attached to the Star Wars movies either so I'm not too concerned with Disney mucking up everything. They have the money to make something potentially awesome too!

Re: Disney Buys Lucasfilm. 3+ New Star Wars Movies Planned
I thought it was a fun movie and I enjoyed it more before really digging into the Star Trek franchise like I have over the past few years, but it's an abomination in the sense that it totally sold out the franchise to JJ fuckin Abrams and his crew. It basically killed a franchise that stayed pretty consistent with it's roots and Roddenberry's vision. If you weren't a fan of it before and you like flashy, generic Abrams stuff, then you won't get what a bummer it kind of is.
I'm no trekkie, I wasn't an old school Star Trek fan (though I do like the movies), but I am a big Next Generation, DS9, Voyaguer, Enterprise fan. With the loss of Roddenberry and Paramount green-lighting Abrams & Kurtzman/Orci (the Mission Impossible/Transformer guys) to reboot it instead of going with the reboot proposals by Jonathon Frakes, William Shatner or J. Michael Straczynski (Babylon 5), yep it's sad. I believe they would have kept the feel of a great franchise and it would have felt like a continuation of Roddenberry's vision. These guys turned it into a Mission Impossible/Transformer feeling movie, because that's what these three guys do. It has zero connection to the rest of the franchise, it's a true reboot....leave your nostaligia behind.

Re: Disney Buys Lucasfilm. 3+ New Star Wars Movies Planned
Hamil isn't the best actor.
He's leaps and bounds easier to follow than pretty much anyone in the prequels. (though, they didn't have much to work with - since they were mostly talking to a green-screen) I mostly meant Ford, Fisher, Guinness, McDiarmid, etc. Hell, even C-3P0 and Vader had more expression and emotion behind their characters. A space opera is about the characters, not so much the story (good vs. evil character pieces). If you put too many characters with low screentime up there, it's going to be pretty hard to get viewers attached to the characters. Unless we're talking Boba Fett... lol.
But yeah. Skip StarWars once you've given the original 3 a fair watch again. Get Netflix. Rewatch Star Trek TNG, DS9. Scifi achieved.
