Asus Transformer Prime
I really want one....and the aholes on our local Craigslist want $700 for them and I have a hard time buying anything on Ebay that is over $100. Even those guys want want at least $70 over the retail cost.
(shakes fist in air) This is what I wanted to spend part of my bonus on!!...or throw money at.

Are they even available? I thought Asus was having issues sourcing components.

I know Best Buy has sent out some of their pre-orders and I believe Gamestop as well. But it's a drizzle of them.

Ahh. The wife is probably getting the Kindle Fire any day now. I tried to talk her into just a basic android tablet to no avail. I wanted a tablet with a keyboard but it turns out that's called a netbook

Re: Asus Transformer Prime
To be more specific, it's the first Tegra 3 (quad core) Android tablet on the market:

Detachable keyboard/dock is pretty awesome and ICS upgradeable makes it full of win. I know a LOT of people excited about this one as a laptop replacement.

Yep, this is what I want rather than a new laptop. I'll just have to wait until the end of January or beginning February when the supply is flowing a bit more freely. No way I'm paying $700 for something that sells for $523 (incl tax) just to have it now.

Re: Asus Transformer Prime
Ok, so the detachable keyboard basically makes it a convertible netbook. I'm down for that, homie. I type 120+ WPM and I need every keystroke of that to avoid falling farther behind in my job than I already am. Most of these mobile devices have a horrible typing experience for me.
...but tablet just to carry around the house to fart around with and a netbook when it needs to get serious work done...nice.
Oh, and I read somewhere that the Windows 8 tablets are about to hit and that they are going to be badass.

Re: Asus Transformer Prime
Whoa and holy hell.....my guy got me one for a surprise Christmas gift. It's arriving on Saturday!!
He's been trying to keep it a secret, but was starting to get worried that I was about to buy one on Ebay or Craigslist, so he told me. Best Christmas EVER!

It was a preorder, ordered for me for a Christmas gift. He got me presents for Christmas, so I wasn't expecting anything extra coming, thus the "surprise".

I'm giddy! Seriously in the deluge of Bath & Body and Victoria's Secret products us females tend to get buried in over the holidays....to get sexy technology for Christmas = pure joy!

Re: Asus Transformer Prime
I look forward to hearing how much your new tablet screams, Harlowe.
The missus finally unleashed her hoarde of Amazon gift cards and pulled the trigger on a Kindle Fire. She's talking about some other new one too, so I'm waiting to hear about another tablet incoming. I forget what the second one is. She kind of drank Amazon's kool-aid, and why not, they are a great company to deal with.
This is the first year in probably my lifetime that I wanted all low-tech gifts. All camping/outdoors stuff from my Amazon gift cards. Oh, and the new Ray-Ban Original Wayfarers with the polarized lenses. Same shades as JFK. Some things never go obsolete.

Re: Asus Transformer Prime
I'm waiting to see what the Google Tablet is gonna be like. I've heard two rumors. 1. That's it's going to compete with the iPad 3 or 2. It's going to compete with the Kindle Fire. I'm hoping for #1, cause I'd probably buy it.
On a related note, the Transformer Prime has some stupid benchmarks. I'm jelly.

Re: Asus Transformer Prime
I bought my guy a Kindle Fire when they came out because it was just in time for his bday. He played with it a lot at first, but has pretty much gone back to his regular Kindle for reading and using his laptop, so not sure if it's a Kindle Fire issue or just square peg -round hole thing for his technology needs.

For her it's strictly going to be a book reader, and she plans on keeping the old one too. So maybe the buzz won't wear off.

She's buying the Kindle Touch too, which I believe has that high-contrast E-ink display that the original has and that some people prefer to use for book reading. She'll have 3 Kindles - what a fanboi!
