Yeah, I remember I was going to go see it at the movies & something came up so I didn't. After hearing all the bad reviews, was glad I saved my $12 bucks. Too bad too. I mean in the original Arnold couldn't even speak much English & managed to make it awesome. Now we have super crazy special effects, enormous range of super muscled actors, and 5 bajillion dollar budgets and can't seem to spit out anything even worth taking a shit on.

F Hollywood.

The first one had the cool Chinese guy narating, tons of no-name actress titties, the guy that did the voice of Darth Vader and a bunch of stuff other than just Arnold. The first one is a great movie.

Even the 2nd one was 100 times better than the new one. There's still decent movies coming out but those seem to be the exeception and not the rule. Hollywood just cranks out all this massively formulaic big budget crap they know people will flock to throw their dollars at like the sheep they are. Maybe a couple out of every hundred movies even deviate slightly from the formula.

I used to spend just shitloads of money trying to fill my DVD collection and ending up with total crap like this movie a good bit of the time. At least those bastards have to earn my money now. But if I paid for this one I'd be busting out the torches and pitchforks.

I think a lot of people remember the original Conan with some rose colored glasses. The original was a train wreck if you were into Conan as Arnold was nothing like the book character. Conan in the books was not a huge guy, just incredibly strong in more of a lean fast muscle type. He was also very intelligent, speaking many languages. Arnold's Conan came off as a buffoon imo.

I don't disagree. If you judged the original by any kind of objective criteria then it probably sucked too. It's just one of those campy cult classics. I can't explain it other than it just clicked with lots of people. It did have some good acting though. Max Von Sydow and James Earl Jones actually put in solid performances.

But I can't think of one single redeeming quality of the new one. The wife thought it was even lacking in the beefcake department.
