League of Legends?

With League of Legends getting so much attention lately (Penny-Arcade and ctrl-alt-del features) I figured I'd give it a shot. I really enjoy PvP games for the most part, and am hoping this is decent. Has anyone played, or any intention of playing?

I'm definitely terrible at this game. Haha. Played a couple quick matches, mostly against AI thus far. It seems a bit overwhelming at first, with all the items and not knowing abilities/champions and such.

What's your name on there, Tax? Surprisingly, Xican was taken, so I have wound up with the name 'Hallec', if you wanna touch base there.

Seems like a pretty fun game. I still don't know too many of the champions, but I'm starting to get the hang of things. My last 5 games I've gone 22-4-10, 23-4-1, 8-2-2 (using Kayle.. Ugh), 19-2-11 and 7-2-2. That's using Irelia for the most part. I checked one of the guides for character builds and it really helped me get the hang of things. I'm decent using Irelia, but have little to no experience with anyone other than Kayle/Ryze, whom I suck with. I'm not loving the fact that I sometimes get paired up with players far worse than me, though. Haha. The fact I can go 23-4-1 (best score in the game) and we still lose decisively annoys me.

What's your name on there, Tax? I dunno if I can even play in the same matches as you, since I'm only like level 8 right now, but it's worth a look!

I think you may be higher level than I am at this point, I really didn't play that much although I want to get into it again. My name is most likely "Taxious" or "Buchannon" on there. I've had some computer issues lately and need to download/install it again.

You don't win the game by killing players, you win by killing the Nexus. Many people focus way too much on their score and how many people they pwned and not enough on pushing effectively, especially when you have an advantage.

I don't play or pay too much attention to it now, but when I was working there I was halfway decent, even with my old man reflexes. Some of the other Riot people are crazy good though. There were some serious internal rivalries going on that would end up projected on the wall and just shut all work in the office down with people watching and cheering on their favorite.

Oh, I realize effective pushing and defense is more important than individual kills. I was just trying to reference how annoying it is, to get paired up with such frustrating players. I didn't mention that my team had a total of 27 kills all game and the only turrets destroyed were by me and it was just the top lane. It seems to be happening less now that I'm level 10.

I logged in yesterday to find I can no longer play Irelia, which broke my heart. Now I have to unlock her with 6300 IP or something. Which is a kick in the pants. I'm getting decent at playing Ashe/Kayle, but I miss Irelia's insane damage.

Sidenote: Kayle is highly underutilized considering how powerful she can be. The pic might not show it, but the +225 ability power in items alone, gives her incredible power. Especially since her passive takes 20% of your attack power and adds it to your ability power. So my ability power was over 300 during that match. Dropping Reckoning, to slow the opponent then launching in with righteous fury (which thanks to my item setup has an attack speed of 1400+) allows you to absolutely demolish opponents. Add in the fact that Kayle can heal AND be invulnerable for 3 seconds and it's like playing on easy mode. Haha.

I installed this and played it for a while the other day. While I'm not normally a RTS fan, this isn't bad since you only have to worry about your unit. I was kicking some ass with Vladimir and Annie, but if your team sucks, you can't win. Not too bad, but it sucks that everything is so nickel and dimed down.

Yeah, Xil it can be really frustrating having poor teams. You can sometimes tell before the match even starts that you're screwed. But on the flip side, when you get a decent squad and roll with them for a few matches, it feels great. I like how it emphasizes the need for team play, too. One player usually can't win it all on their own and I dig that. Later on you'll be able to do 'ranked' matches, where people are a lot more serious about it and you rarely get shafted with a completely garbage team. Makes the games more competitive.

Xil, if you want to play on easy mode, just save up IP or drop like $5 on some RP and unlock Irelia. She just got nerfed but still rapes all when played well. This is one of my post-nerf games, that didn't even last very long (half hour or so), and I didn't max my template (no Phantom Dancer or Infinity Edge) and Irelia still pumps out insane, game changing damage. In this case, just over 100k damage.

...Pay no attention to the background on my desktop. Haha.

Ones that are OP preferably. I haven't unlocked any yet so just playing with the default ones right now. (wow just googled them, there are a ton!)

I've played with quite a few of them, the two I've liked well enough to play again so far are Heimerdinger and Alistar.

They change up the 'free' characters every 1-2 weeks. So, it's hard to really get the one you want full-time unless you unlock/buy it.

Of the current free ones, the most OP are probably Annie, Garen or Fiddlesticks. A well played Fiddlesticks is my biggest fear when I'm playing (since I play tank/burst DPS). When he drops his ultimate (AoE), then throws his 'bouncing' silence and hits a life drain, he can change a team fight instantly. Drives me nuts.

If you have 450 IP, you might wanna unlock Nunu. He is a great support, who can take a lot of damage and slows opponents, while giving +movement and attack speed to his allies. Not great for getting kills, but still really good.

I added you on there, feel free to give me a shout. I dunno how the matchmaking system will balance us, being so different in level, but I can usually carry a team late game, if I get a good start.

EDIT: You might like Kayle, too. I can give you a good build for her runes/masteries/items that will make her do amazing damage.
