Russ Feingold

Post by Kulaf »

As a displaced Wisconsinite I can say that his loss really shocked me. WI is known for putting Senators on a bit of a pulpit and almost giving them the office for life, and while I don't agree with a lot of his stands on issues, I always admired the mans single minded devotion to what he thought was right and his willingness to vote his mind instead of the will of his party.

What should scare a lot of Dems backing the President is what will Russ do in 2012. From the sound of it, he has every intention of running against Obama and taking a position much to the left of where the President currently resides.

Wisconsin had the largest enthusiasm gap in the nation and that's why Feingold lost. It's a shame because he really was a great Senator.

It's extremely unlikely that Feingold or anyone else is going to try to primary Obama in 2012. I just don't see that happening.

I think he will most definatly run. You have to know his personality and his desire to be in government.

According to his spokesman, Feingold has "no interest in challenging President Obama in 2012". He also said, "I would chalk up any Beltway chatter about Russ running against President Obama as simply Washington getting wee-wee'd up on the first day of new election cycle that is two years away."

I like the wee-wee'd line. :)

Well we will have to see. But I do not envision Feingold waiting until 2016 when no one remembers him. There is only really one place to go from Senator and that is President. Anything else would be a step backwards. So unless he plans on retiring from politcal life....he will run in 2012. Also a possibility that depending on how desperate the President is for votes on the left that he could dump Biden and pick Feingold as his VP nominee.

Don't see it happening. Feingold, if he ran against Obama, would fracture the party, which is struggling to keep itslef unified. He'd split the far left against the centrist left, and almost ensure that neither he nor Obama would win.
Correction Mr. President, I DID build this, and please give Lurker a hug, we wouldn't want to damage his self-esteem.

Obama has already announced Biden will be his VP in 2012.

Feingold might run for Governor.

Well that is a pre-election article.....and not one of the cited reasons for having Biden as his VP running mate mentioned "He will help us win the election." If the far left of the Dem's becomes disenfranchised and apathetic then Obama loses. If they feel they can energize the left by putting Feingold on the bill it will be done.
