Final Fantasy XIV
Wow. I thought Final Fantasy XI was boring, but holy fuck, they've topped it.

Re: Final Fantasy XIV
The time I spent with it was a joke. It was a nightmare just trying to stay connected long enough to get the thing patched. Once you get in and finally get a character created (which, btw, the descriptions for the classes are quite vague and really don't give you much of an idea about what each class really does), you start in a tutorial thing that's fairly straight forward. Once you finish that, it dumps you into a room full of other "travelers" but the quest description tells you nothing other than to inquire with the others for more information. I found that all of them pretty much threaten you and tell you to go away. There were no options to choose, or bracketed text that gives you a hint as to say something to them like EverQuest had. Once I got into the city, the game was extremely laggy due to the server having difficulty holding the number of players on it. I also had turned down the options from High to Low to see if that would improve performance, which it did not. I finally managed to find my way out to where I could fight enemies and try to level up, but it was just very drull and boring.Ddrak wrote:Seriously? Any more you can say?

I played a Thaumaturge which I assumed is a Mage type class. He had a magic wand dart thingy that worked as a melee attack, and two spells which were both area of effect spells. Not really great for getting the drop on enemies off in the distance without grabbing everything around it. Because of the fact that several of the upcoming MMOs are coming to the PS3, I wanted to try and see if they had improved on the formula since FFXI which did not appeal to me at all. Getting chain sleep/attack/sleep/attack by a level 4 sheep at level 9 and dying because of it, is not my idea of a fun game. They haven't. It's the exact same thing with better graphics and the ability to change jobs on the fly. It also has an 8 hour per week limitation on each job, so if you play more than that, you have to switch jobs otherwise you gain less and less exp with that job until the timer resets, which is retarded.

You know, I always said that the FF series just wasn't good for online play. The driving force behind that series is a combination of graphics and story. In online play, you have to sacrifice graphics to a certain extent for performance and the story line is often reduced by nothing in the wake of accomplishment. It just doesn't play to FF's strengths.
Oh and the FF community are a bunch of pre-pubescent fuckin' turds.
