How do you connect your ps3 to the internet?
How do you connect your ps3 to the internet? I have a USB modem which I use to access the internet and a 160gb PS3. I would like to know the materials and procedures required to connect my ps3 to the internet.

If you're using dial-up, then you need to look into the connection sharing stuff built into Windows. Connect your PC and PS3 up to either an ethernet (wired) hub or a WiFi access point (don't use a router or it will mess you around with DHCP stuff). Then set your PC up to do connection sharing through the USB modem - it should just work.

PS3s aren't region coded for PS3 games. They are for Blu-Ray or DVD movies though, and for PS1 games. Assuming you're using a HDTV, it will all work fine (with a 240V -> 120V transformer, I think).
You're best off keeping your US consoles and players as the region coding can mess you around if you buy a new player over here and want to watch movies from the US. One more annoyance that the movie industry subjects paying customers to.

Aren't video games subject to censorship in Aussieland? In fact, isn't this board subject to censorship? How long before your PS3's start displaying the "blue screen of treason" ?
And it doesn't look like it's going to be very long before our laws take a turn for the draconian here in the states.

All media is subject to mild government censorship by the OFLC over here, video games included (which isn't that different from most nations other than the US). The real issue is they don't have an "R18+" classification for video games which effectively leaves the unclassified and therefore not legal to be sold. There's widespread support in changing this.Freecare Spiritwise wrote:Aren't video games subject to censorship in Aussieland? In fact, isn't this board subject to censorship? The legalities of this board being censored are interesting. Relbeek still owns the domain (we've thus far been unsuccessful at getting wildwestdomains to transfer it), and I rent the server from a US company. It probably comes under a whole bunch of jurisdictions but I take the basic attitude that if people want to take stupid legal stuff into it then I'll roll with it once a lawyer contacts me.

Yes, but I couldn't figure the purpose behind it so I figured I'd be nice and answer anyway in case some real person got a google hit.xilly wrote:You guys realize this is not a legit post, right?

I saw an interesting article about the video game ratings over at slashdot:
slashdot.com wrote:
Dexter Herbivore writes
"Australian gamers are yet again left disappointed by their government's response to a lack of an R18+ rating for games. Gamespot reports that Home Affairs Minister Brendan O'Connor has blamed 'interest groups' for swamping the public consultation with pro-R18+ submissions. From the article: 'A strong response from gamer groups in the Australian Federal Government's R18+ public consultation has led Censorship Ministers to claim that more views from the community are needed before a decision into the introduction of an R18+ classification for video games can be reached.'"

The government is populated with idiots. What can I say?
Of course there was massive response from gamers on a public feedback session on gaming. What the hell did they expect? Motorbike gangs to pitch in and swamp everyone or something?
