Firefox Add-ons

Post by Select »

I tried doing a search for the thread that had this info, but failed.

I usually keep a ton of tabs open to read when I get a free moment during the week. Firefox tends to crash every now and then (I guess the memory leak grows too big?) sometimes I lose my tabs, sometimes I don't. What's a good add-on for saving this shit so I can always recover it in case of a crash?

Feel free to recommend other favorite add-ons since the topic title will make for an easy search. :)

And anyone have any tips to recover my tabs now? I wanted to read so many things. :( Wanted to possibly bookmark a few for future reference. >.<

... does Chrome have a recovery feature where you can always recover your tabs? Have some nice add-ons been developed yet?

Edit: I know each tab is individual with Chrome, but does that still save it from when the entire thing crashes or wants to update?

Tabmix Plus, and use the "unsorted bookmarks" feature to tag stuff to read later that you don't necessarily want to show up on your bookmark menu.

Or... copy the stuff into something like OneNote (if you have MS Office installed).

I prefer Read It Later if I want to temporarily bookmark something to come back to.

Stop trying to be hip/edgy and just use IE8, which has crash recovery built in :)

What would someone need a proxy browser for?

Your IP address has little to do with your browser. Firefox (and every browser I've seen) can be configured to use a proxy server. It "hides" your IP address by bouncing your intratube requests through the proxy server so that it appears that request came from that proxy machine instead of your "real" machine. Your proxy server may have its own proxy server as well, adding additional security by adding more bounces between you and your intended recipient.

Your browser (a program running on your computer) can be set up to use these proxy addresses for requests. You can also set up your proxy settings through your operating system and avoid having to set it up through each program.

Exactly. I prefer to use IE for it.

Did I say how well? o_O It's certainly not perfect, but it works well enough for my purposes.

Anyway, any other add-ons people rave out? I think Minute had a huge list in that old thread I can't find.

Ok, sure, what the hell, here's one:

I was working for this company, and this guy I work with got caught cheating on his wife because someone who didn't like him hacked into his email account at work, read all his email and ratted him out to his old lady. So my boss thinks the guy is an idiot for getting his company email password hacked, and I tell him that I could give him a list of all the account names/passwords of all the executives by the next day, because the guy was an executive and they think they're special/smarter lol. He tells me "bullshit, nobody can guess mine", and because my relationship with him went back to when I was practically a kid, the next day I give hand him a list of all the executives email passwords, including his. Packet sniffer FTW, and keep in mind I'm just a programmer, and networking is only a hobby for me. Most people leave Outlook at the default setting of checking for email every half hour, so I had most passwords (everyone that had checked theirs) by my first smoke break.

Like I said, most people have this over-inflated sense of their own intelligence, which is often their undoing ;)

I cleverly use a proxy to hide my IP address, because I'd be screwed if someone found out it was 192.168.0.101. Oops!

 Dd. I don't open IE to go to Rants. I'm on FF with no added bounce.
