Beef 4 MKV

So I recently bought a Netbook for portability, problem is it only has 1GB of memory and a 1.3 ghz processor & it's not powerful enough to handle my mkv video files. My other laptop is a monster with dual core 3 ghz cpu with 6 gigs of memory 1066fsb the works. It of course handles them fine. But it also weighs like 10 lbs & has a 17 inch monitor. WAY too big. What I need to find is the balance. A machine pretty much dedicated to watching video (even as thick as Blu-rays & HD stuff). If I can find the minimum CPU/Memory combo that will play everything I throw at it, I can build the size of the machine around that.

I personally am thinking at least a 2.2ghz dual core with 3 gigs of memory would be required.

It's more CPU power than RAM that's required for HD video playback, and having an assist from the video card will help a *lot* (assuming you can find a player/codec that will use it for decoding). What video card is in your 1.3GHz laptop? Have you tried experimenting with different players (Windows Media Player, Nero Player, VLC, etc.)?

For raw HD video playback without GPU assistance, 2GHz+ is really needed and dual core usually helps.
