!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It looks really great too, how exciting. That site never loaded for me though, I'm assuming this is the same video in case anyone else is having the same problem.

Yep - same video.

Man... if they can bring back meaningful salvage rather than just scripted stuff, I'm soo in love.

Re: Mechwarrior Returns!
The original Mechwarrior was the first 3d game I ever played. Back in 1989. by today's standards the graphics sucked ass. But in 1989 it blew my mind.

I have no idea how many days and days of my life I wasted on Mechwarrior 2 and all it's expansions. If I had a decent windows 95 emulator I might even pull the disks out of storage and try them again. But it's never as good as you remember it. You get spoiled by modern graphics and that old game you loved just looks too ugly and clunky to put up with. Here is a shot from Mechwarrior 2

Re: Mechwarrior Returns!
The gameplay on Mech2 was far better than 3 or 4 though for the reason that it actually mattered *how* you killed the other mech and what sorts of spares you needed between missions. Blowing the torso away meant no salvage. Shooting off a leg meant you got to keep it, but it was much harder to do properly. When Mech3 introduced scripted salvage (didn't matter how you killed them, you got the same salvage every game) it really killed the depth of the game.
I sooo hope they bring back that sort of depth in the gameplay for Mechwarrior 2009.
btw - my Mechwarrior 2 looked better than that! I remember having the special version that was hardware accelerated for the Matrox Mystique!

Re: Mechwarrior Returns!
They released a 3d accelerated version later. Called the titanium edition. The graphics were better.
I dug out my old copy last night and tried playing it. Couldn't get it to run in vista under emulation mode. Tried it in a windows 98 virtual machine and it ran. but if I took more than 5 minutes to complete a mission it would grind to a slide show as if there was a gargantuan memory leak.
Grrrr
