a NEW EQ1 server?

So after a long while in EQ1 and EQ2, a few deployments, and a painful attempt at playing some other games (WoW, AoC, and Darkfall - the worst fing thing ever made imo) I was dying for something new to play to soak up some time...
Apparently there is a NEW EQ1 server being made to commemorate the "10 years of EQ". There was a vote on server rules, and on 26APR it was decided to be a 51/50 server (start at lvl 51 with 50AAs). I've gotten in touch with some old friends/guildies from various games and we're going to try this thing out.

We have a couple of solid groups already and I figure we could get to raiding pretty quickly. Anyone interested in joining us?

Ideally I'd like to raid 4-5 times a week, and if someone wanted to schedule something on the side (epic, coldian prayer shawl, etc) I'm all for that as well. I plan on raiding around 4pm PST - 7/8pm PST, but I'm willing to work around schedules and understand that most of us have developed real lives since we played back in the day.

Strange, I've moved from one mmo to another but never found anything close to the contention or enjoyability I found in EQ. WoW came close for a time, but eventualy the lack of contested creatures reduced my desire to play. There is something about racing for the prize, the competition, the rivalry and the taste of victory I have never found again in any MMO. I suppose its the like the first kiss, something that you judge all others that come after by. Too bad we cannot relive the glory days, they fade away into the rose glass tint of yesterday.

No, I mean that the PC version of EQ is so bloated that I'll never play it again.

I'll agree with some of that bloated comment, but starting at lvl 51 it will be a very fast grind up to 65. Then we're cutting level xp off, switching to AA and jumping right into the raid content. Do you remember how much there is to do at level 65? Literally two TRILLION raid targets, not even joking or exaggerating!F leveling up to 85. There really isn't any point. If you actually wanted to do that content chances are you are still playing EQ right now, and have a level 85 ready to rock. This server is an excellent chance to bring the social aspect back to the game and have a good bit of fun.

So the recruitment drive is going well...

We've got 34 solid characters signed up and a few more still deciding on what class to play. We should be doing real raid targets within a week of the server launch. Check the forums out @ http://www.addictguild.com

Currently we are looking for a couple more Druids and DPS classes, though Clerics and Knights are welcome as well.

Classic EQ was the best EQ, imo.

PoP wasn't terrible until they started removing flag requirements and letting everyone get into places without working for it. Velious is still and has always been, by far, my favorite expansion.

Edit: My powersource has been overheating running anything but WMP and IE so I'm exactly sure how reliable my playtime will be until I get that fixed. I've got another fan hooked up to it right now, and the actual fans inside are all running fine, but I have no air circulation in my room and it just gets hot.
