Terminator 4

Post by Taxious »

I'm excited to see this Thursday.

Have you guys heard the audio of Christian Bale flipping out on the set? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPY1bUpCgMA About half way through, he really starts laying into him. I realize that people can have bad days, but I think he took it too far.

I haven't seen it, going Friday, but so far from several reviewers that I typically agree with it hasn't been good. They said it wasn't total shit, but it wasn't anything like it should have been. One quote said it was too busy being Hollywood to be entertaining. Sad face

I'll be seeing it Thursday as well. And I'm sorry . . . Christian Bale is hot enough that he can tell anyone to fuck off and I'd be ok with it. :)

what's funnier is the Family guy version of that clip....

Well.... yeah, he is a stud.

In fact, after I saw Batman, I hired an old geezer to wake me up in the morning with a green drink in hand, lightly admonish me about taking better care of myself, just so I could fall over, do push-ups and pretend I was Bale for about 3 seconds.
Correction Mr. President, I DID build this, and please give Lurker a hug, we wouldn't want to damage his self-esteem.

Ok, I saw it.

The good news: the special effects were pretty damn awesome. And there is one really cool "surprise" in the movie that I was not expecting. It has something to do with effects and I thought to myself, "bad ass!"
Hidden Information!
Arnie terminator model. That was some awesome digital work there......
Surprisingly, I enjoyed the Marcus storyline the best. I thought the guy did ok for someone I've never seen before, etc.

The bad news: how many fucking cliches can you have in a movie these days?

1. Gung ho military leader who would nuke a city full of human prisoners because "THIS IS WARRRRRR, SOLDIER."

2. The obligatory little kid that doesn't speak because of some terrible trauma experienced. Thankfully, they didn't have the scene were the kid finally cries out, saving the hero because he decided to finally talk. It's not much of a silver lining, though. I thought "right on, a kid. I bet she doesn't talk." Bingo!

3. The pregnant girlfriend of the hero. Why is there always a pregnant girlfriend? Again (thankfully) we didn't get to see a wartime birthing scene where she goes into labor right at the worst possible time. I have to thank the creative powers that be for that one.

There were more cliche/predictable scenes. I just kind of gave up trying to rationalize my way out of them and went along for the ride. I pretty much did that throughout most of the film.

In short, it was pretty fucking shitty. It was contrived as shit, totally cheezy/mushy during all the cliche moments. The writing overall was some of the worst I've ever seen in a movie, but some of the little nods to older films were fun (SOME, not all----it started to get old after a while.)

Best nod to a previous film is when John Connor downed a motorcycle bot and Guns N Roses was playing (same song as young Connor was listening to in T2 on his motorcycle,) and the scene ends with John Connor hacking into a system to get what he wants. They definitely did their homework in regard to "tribute moments" but they felt a big gimmicky at times.

But, I will say, I still had a good time. I had to suspend all belief and pretty much tell myself, "yeah, this sucks, but I'm here and I'm gonna enjoy it."

It was better than T3 simply because I loathed T3 with the intensity of a thousand suns. And I didn't loathe this so much. So, there you go.

The trailer was better.

This movie was complete shit. I laughed hystarically when Connor hacks those doors open, just in the nick of time to get by that terminator-bot. The terminator bot "walks" from torso/shoulder up acrossed the screen. The walking is about as realistic as when muppets from The Muppet Show bounce up and down acrossed the camera. My fiancee was looking at me like I was crazy, and nobody else in the theater was laughing. Anybody else notice this?

Oh. My. God...this movie sucked so much ass, a recap of all the ridiculous would take way too much time. The

CGI Arnold
was pretty damn good, but everything and I mean EVERYTHING else, sucked complete ass - from the godawful screenplay, to the actors.

I sat there at the end with the credits rolling and had to say outloud "well, that blew" and everyone around me agreed.

Don't need to hide the CGI Arnold. It's in practically every review anyway. It's like putting hide tags around "Aeris Dies".

I thought it was ok in the same way I thought Transformers was ok. If you want to see 2 hours of CG and action.......well you get those films. If you want character development from the 4th movie in a series.....go see Harry Potter.

"Aeris Dies"
ZOMG SPOILARZ!

On topic, I'm sad that the reviews are so negative. I would have loved to see another genuinely good Terminator movie.

I'm curious as to the sound level in the theaters of those saying it sucked. Because if you weren't feeling the bass in your chest you didn't watch the same movie I did.

Sound was good. Effects were good. Writing sucked a big, fat gnome-shaped turd (no offense, Minute.)

So, from what I can gather, this movie is just like the other 3? Cutting edge effects and lame plot?

WTF, Xican. The first two were great. The second one blows all the rest away, imho, but I can't even begin to compare this latest festering turd to the first two.

The third one sucked ass. It had Claire Danes in it. I think that generally gets a "suck ass" stamp in most cases. Unfortunately, it tarnished Nick Stahl's career for all time. No matter how many "Sin City" type films he does, (or Carnivale,) he'll forever be associated with the 2nd to worst Terminator movie. Poor guy.

This is truth. When I say bad screenplay, I'm not talking about just your average "cheesy action movie screenplay", I am talking GODAWFUL even for an CG action movie screenplay. The acting was bad for an action movie. Hell the dialogue and acting in Doom was fucking better. I'm not even talking character development, just the actual acting & dialogue.

On the bright side - he isn't associated with the WORST Terminator movie now. :D

Other than the CGI

Arnold
the effects were not very state of the art looking to me. I just wasn't impressed on any level. I was just waiting for it to get over so I could see the ending and leave. This is coming from someone that LOVES action movies.

Oh, c'mon now... Great? The first two were okay, for action movies. But just like many are saying of this newest one -- The plot was okay (definitely not great), the acting was shitty and the all around presentation wasn't exactly suspenseful or thrilling outside of your average action movie. Though, they did have great effects and some sweet action scenes.

I've just never been impressed with the series as a whole. I guess time traveling robots just don't do it for me. Oh, that and Arnold is the worst fucking actor ever. He couldn't even make a fucking robot believable.

Well, I'll put it to you this way:

If you could tolerate T1 and T2 as "ok films with mediocre acting, humdrum writing and big things that go boom," you will likely come out of T4 saying, "Wow, the first two should have gotten oscars." No amount of CGI/action sequences would have saved this.

I think it has occurred to me what I compare T4 to: Cyborg. It's Cyborg bad.

But, I will stand by what I said above. I did enjoy myself despite how bad it was. I think I was just trying to tell myself I was eating caviar when in fact I was gagging down a can full of tuna-fat.

Something else was bugging me about the movie but I couldn't place my finger on it until now.

In the original Terminator Arnold was a T-100. In the second Terminator he was a T-101 and the liquid terminator was a T-1000.

In this movie Marcus is described as the first infiltration unit.....which explains why the resistance didn't try to figure out if he was a terminator or not......yet T-600's are rolling off the assembly line?
