Pelosi

Post by Embar Angylwrath »

For all of you clamoring for criminal charges against people in the government that knew and abetted torture... does it apply to Pelosi?

The facts are coming out now. Her denials and carefully worded statements can't deflect her involvement anymore. She was fully aware and briefed on, and I might add, NEVER RAISED AN OBJECTION TO, the use of waterboarding. That's tacit approval of the use. Should she be crucified too in your bloodlust to exact a pound of flesh?

Lurker? Partha? Where's the outcry? Where's the wringing of hands, the venemous spittle?

I await your deflections and dodges...
Correction Mr. President, I DID build this, and please give Lurker a hug, we wouldn't want to damage his self-esteem.

Ha! Wringing hands and venomous spittle? Are you taking drama lessons from Jecks?

It's been reported that Pelosi was briefed once about torture techniques that were used on Abu Zubaydah when she was on the House Intelligence Committee. She claims she was only briefed that waterboarding was an option but hadn't been used. I don't believe her side of events. I think she should have done everything in her power to investigate the illegal activity of the Bush Administration when it came to her attention. It was her responsibility to provide some oversight and she failed at that.

Is being briefed on what already happened equal to planning and implementing the act? I don't think the distinction matters. Congress allowed clearly criminal activity to continue on their watch. I'm all for a special prosecutor being appointed to investigate the Bush administrations criminal use of torture.

^^ What Lurker said, though I'd rephrase the last sentence to say "I'm all for a special prosecutor being appointed to investigate the criminal use of torture and all those who aided and abetted the act, no matter which side of the political aisle they are on."

Agree 100%. It doesn't matter a bit to me what their affiliation is. All should be investigated and prosecuted if they aided and abetted the act. On the petty side, Pelosi has always been a shrill, ineffective harpy imo and a taint on the Democratic Party. It would give me great pleasure to see her go down. I have equally negative feelings about Reid.

I find this whole thing fascinating. Unsurprising to find out that Pelosi is a political opportunist with no moral compass but still fascinating.

My point, Harlowe, is that when calling for heads, Lurker and Partha seem to be calling only for Bush administration heads, while completely ignoring the acts and silent approval from the other side of the political fence. Look at Lurker's post here, he's already defending Pelosi. It makes them petty opportunists with an axe to grind, and disengenous in their supposed righteous indignation. Isn't there a saying about justice unevenly applied is no justice at all?

RESIGN and GO AWAY. You and your face DISGUST ME!

BTW, I saw you in a low cut blouse. Couldn't you afford to have your chest stretched? It looks like a map of the Mississippi Delta---with all those furrows and deep lines.

YOU DISGRACE ALL AMERICANS!!!

OH GEE, SUDDENLY AS MORE AND MORE TOP DEMOCRATS BECOME EXPOSED AS ACCESSORIES AND ENABLERS (to what I don't know, since there is no "crime" whatsoever for anyone - but whatever, we'll play their silly game), THE MORE THE RAT PARTY SUDDENLY DECIDES ITS ALL A BAD IDEA AND WANTS TO DROP IT!

If the DemocRAT Party fire bombing hundreds of thousands of civilians, women, babies, monks and school kids to death,

if the DemocRAT Party nuking hundreds of thousands of women and children, wiping out hospitals, schools and children on outings, delivering DEMOCRAT TORTURE by Thermonuclear Immolation and Radiation to innocent civilians - on multiple occasions,

if the DemocrRAT war of atrocity, massacre and savagery in Vietnam,

if the DemocRAT rounding up tens of thousands of Asian-Americans and putting them in concentration camps,

if the DemocRAT attacking the sovereign nation of Pakistan without legal authority,

If DemocRAT atrocities against Native Americans,

If all these War Crimes, and more, that have been delivered to this earth by the hand of the Democrat Party are not "War Crimes" and "Crimes Against Humanity"...

...THEN neither are advanced interrogation techniques.

Its just that simple.

Fess up to your Democrat crimes or shut your pie holes you partisan pansies.

Repeat loud and repeat often. Right back in their puss filled faces.

Having seen the methods employed I cannot figure how anyone could call it torture. No heads were cut off and no one's life was placed at risk other than our military's. I can only imagine what these whiners would have said if the terrorists had been forced to go on rides at some theme park or forced to jump of a bridge with bungy cords. Caterpillar torture??? Come on this whole thing is a joke and the only reason it is brought up is to impair our safety from these nut jobs!

Like all Democratzi, from our Kenyan president to the local dog catcher, Pelosi stands for nothing more then her personal acquisition of power. On the other hand, do the high and mighty "progressive" Liberals posting really feel it is better to sacrifice American lives then dribble water on the nose of an aspiring mass murderer? Here again is more Liberal hypocrisy. If it were their own life, or their family's, they would pull out the stops. As long as the lives are your's and mine however, they would point their noses in the air and let us all die.

I could read these all day. LOL

This is Somethingawful.com Weekend Web material.

Yeah, there's some dumb/corrupt motherfuckers on both sides of the aisle. So, she was brief'd in 2002 - a year after 9/11 right? Didn't have any words about/against it? Emotions were running pretty high around that time, if you can all remember. I can think of a few things that went sour after 9/11. I wonder what politician would speak out (so soon) against the torturing of somebody who was affiliated with the 'evil muslims' who brought down the trade towers?

I understand that it's flopish of her to be all RAH-RAH-REPUBLICANS TORTURE PEOPLE OMGGGGGG now, and trust me - I'm no huge fan of Pelosi... But, are you really that surprised that those dems who were brief'd weren't openly against it then? The "WAR ON TERROR" from what I recall was generally pretty popular until the reality of the occupation manifested.

Hey, if you don't know how the capitol-hill flame game goes by now - you're an idiot. People are lying sacks of shit on both sides of the aisle, and will do anything for a juicy partisan-jab to the throat.

Welcome to America!

While not defending her......you certainly didn't clarify whether you want your called for special investigation to include members of Congress. I am sure you do.....but you didn't make it clear.

If she knew about it, she should hold no position in government, period. If criminal charges apply, and they are applied, I support them. Simple enough for you, Mr. 'IOKIYAR"?

More reports are coming out. Heard the latest on NPR yesterday. Apparently there were even more Dems that knew of the EITs, and knew they were being, or had been, applied. Also, Pelosi is starting the word dance now, carefully phrasing her responses, giving half-answers and not addressing certain parts of certain questions.

She also wants to appoint a truth commissions to see who knew what and when. (Of course, the Dems being in control, they get to appoint the people on the truth commission). The Republicans are saying that there should be a congressional hearing on the matter instead.

So which side do you think is more committed to finding out the truth? The people on the hotseat who want to pick the people doing the investigation? Or the people who want a full and open Congressional inquiry?

Neither. They are both playing the finger-pointing game. Congressional hearings could have begun years ago if they were truly concerned about the truth. Now it's a game of "look how more concerned we are".

America torturing for information is not OMG SUDDEN news. It's been out there being discussed for years.

Coulda woulda shoulda...

That was the past, but the question is, what is the best way to move forward? Truth commission? Congressional hearings? Something else?

Whatever the mechanism used, it should be open, and as free from political tinkering as possible. So that stops the truth commission... we can't have people who might fall under investigation appointing those that might investigate them. Special prosecutor? Same thing, and probably a little premature anyway. I think open Congressional hearings are the way to go.

Or just give everyone a mulligan and move on.

I thought Embar said what they were doing was not torture. Or is this his moral compass flipping again on us?

I'm on record as saying waterbaording is torture, and that is what is being discussed here. Some of the other stuff (sleep deprivation, solitary confinement, stress positions) isn't torture in my opinion. However, since everyone agrees that waterboarding is torture, that's the common ground between us all.

For those that don't like to read sideways.

Looks like there were plenty of briefings to both Dems and Reps over a good timeframe. I think this is one reason there won't be a true investigation into what happened... too many people on both sides of the aisle will burn. The funny thing is, the Dems will be placed in a very precarious position by actually having to thwart Reps attempts at a Congressional hearing, thereby showing the citizenry that the Dems are merely paying lip service to this. When they respond by protecting their own hides (and they will), it will give the Reps the image that they are unafraid of the truth, while the Dems try to hide it.

The Dems misstepped when they tried to throw this at the departing administration. There's enough tar here to stick to plenty of people, and the Dems should have just let this one go.
