Sounds of the Universe...

Ugh. It sounds awful. I've been a DM fan since the mid 90s, and I absolutely 100% dug every song on 2005's Playing the Angel album. Playing the Angel was so freakin refreshing. They updated their sound, went a little more dissonant and dark. It was a great change without selling out to cheap ideas. I always bring up that they're one of the only bands that have been together 30+ years who haven't sold out or strayed too far from their initial idea.

Sounds of the Universe has some of their old synth styles, but it seems pretty empty. I've listened to the whole album now, and I don't think I'mma listen to it again, even being a DM superfan. The featured "Wrong" song is the highlight of the album... and it sucks ass. Dave's vocal style is forced and obnoxious. He's WAY better when he's laid back - he can't do the whole strung-out voice without sounding lameo.

I give it a 1/5. LAMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Its right down there with "Exciter" which previously was my least favorite album.

Im sure, as with the flop "Exciter", there will be some remixes that might make some of the tunes worthwhile.

But anyways, yeah, 1/5 stars. That's final.

Ive seen a couple bands cover that song. Those guys are pretty good (though not my sort of thing). Christian bands are usually pretty epic/have good gear/endorsed/etc from what i've seen. :-p
