Game Suggestions

Post by Taxious »

I'm looking for computer games that are along the same lines as Gauntlet Legends and X-Men Legends. I don't really know what you would call these games - arcade style hack-and-slash?

Step 1:

Buy Diablo 2 (or... uh, I can't really promote this - but ... "ARGGGGG!!! *eyepatch*)

Step 2:

Install Ventrillo or some other voicechat

Step 3:

Join me and my fiancee's daily TCP/IP game :)

-- OR --

Dungeon Siege, DS2, Neverwinter Nights (not so much hack and slash, a bit of thought put into it).

I forgot to mention that these games are not for me, but for the bf. The only games he seems to like are Gauntlet Legends and X-Men Legends. Both games have the same type of play - repetitive mass-slaughtering of enemies with an arcade type view.

Maybe I can get him hooked on Diablo and Baldur's Gate - but those might be too much.

Try dungeon siege?

I've never played it, but from viewing some quick screen shots, it looks like the "right type" of game. I'll have to suggest it to him.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance?

a review summary

despite its few flaws, MUA is a blast to play.
If you’ve ever enjoyed an X-men Legends game, MUA is a step above and beyond that.
RPG and dungeon crawler fans along with comic-book lovers will find much to love about MUA.

Titan Quest + Immortal Throne is pretty fun. I actually played it through a couple of times.

I'll have to try it out, thanks Dd.

I got Mass Effect for xmas this year and sat down to play it and he got really interested - so now he's going to play through that. We both loved KOTOR, so I'm sure Mass Effect will be a big hit too. So far, the graphics alone are pretty amazing.

If he gets hooked on Mass Effect then you may as well just toss Oblivion and/or Morrowind at him afterwards...

He's really into astronomy, and not so much into the fantasy stuff. I'll try to sell him on Oblivion/Morrowind after M.E., but I can already see the :? on his face.

Ahh - sci-fi, not fantasy. Ok then, that makes it a bit harder. There's a bunch of real-time strategy games (Starcraft, Dawn of War series, Sins of a Solar Empire, etc.) but I'm guessing those won't hold his interest. If he's into open-ended space games then the X-series may be interesting for him but they tend to be VERY open and somewhat vague on where to go next.

I'd avoid Space Siege. It was fun but not worth anything more than bargain-bin prices due to the fact it's crazy short. I'll keep thinking of other ideas though.

Another Diablo-esque game: Sacred 2: Fallen Angel. The demo was interesting enough.

Beat Mass Effect and Left4Dead - both were great games. I'll have to try Fallout 3 and I think I'm going to ebay Marvel Ultimate Alliance here soon.

Is EVE really worth playing? I've heard it's much like ProgressQuest.

I played it for a while. It has a very steep learning curve, I'd say its about the most difficult MMO I've ever played. It's also probably the MMO with the most amount of play space.. its freakin' huge. The people who play it aren't your typical MMO players though, especially not the WoW stereotype. Probably because the amount of time needed to get comfortable with the game is considerable, and it chases off instant gratification junkies.

It's not for everyone, but I think its a well put together game.

I only tried out the 2 week free trial, but I agree on all points. EVE was pretty fun, after I figured out WTF was going on.
