Depends on their bandwidth, but that number sounds pretty high. I'd be interested to see some hard figures on bandwidth, server load, hits/day and the like because it honestly sounds like their hosting company is doing pretty well out of them.

Of course, the fact they are running a non-free BB system (vBulliten) that is going to hit your server harder than phpBB 3.0 does won't help their issues. My biggest problem has been trying to convince Google's bot that it really doesn't need to index the entire site every day.

I should also add the "number of users" they are quoting in that thread means nothing at all. This board has 5500 users but they sure don't all hit the site every day. If they knew what they were talking about then they'd post more meaningful stats.

My suspicion is they really don't have much of a clue, were taken for a ride by some cheap hosting companies and so went to the other extreme for an overengineered and overpriced solution.

To go even further, godaddy's highest bandwidth dedicated server plan that supports everything TDG needs is about $65/month. I suspect they are definitely paying for much more than they use.
