pan's labryinth

Post by calleagh »

so i finally broke down and saw this. normally i don't care for fantasy movies but this one was pretty good if not incredibly sad. the little girl who portrayed ofelia was very believable and perfect for the part.

anyway i was pleasantly surprised at this movie; expecting the same old tired fantasy hollywood bullshit and instead getting a movie that was not only worth watching the first time but again and again.

The pale man in the second test was creepy as shit. I loved it!

I saw this in the theater a when it first came to the US. I think what sets it apart from "the same old tired fantasy hollywood bullshit " is that it wasn't made by hollywood.

Yes, but it is subtitled. The Spanish sounds beautiful. I also heard they used a more formal or older form of Spanish for Pan's lines. I don't know if this is true since I don't speak/understand Spanish =\

I picked up every third or fourth word (Occasionally an entire sentence), mostly remembered from high school Spanish. To me, Spanish has always been a beautiful language when it's enunciated properly, and not spoken in such a speedy fashion as seems to be common among Mexicans. It sounds great in this film, but I wouldn't be able to tell you if Pan's lines are an older or more "proper" form of the language either.

I would highly reccoment it, Ddrak. It's very different, as has been mentioned already. It has some very dark parts to it, and while it's somewhat predictable, I was having trouble properly guessing what would happen next. The very end wasn't so surprising to me, but a whole lot of what lead up to it in the last half hour or so left me with no clue. I would expect one thing, and something else entirely would happen.

The pale man is a very nice chase scene. It really builds up the tension.

Whoever made that film is a genius. The blend of fantasy and reality was just perfect. And the ending was just amazing, it was both a TRAGEDY and at the same time a COMEDY. I don't want to go into details as this post would be a spoiler. Definitely a must see film.

i believe that the spanish spoken in this movie is castilian spanish from the castile area of spain. it is also called neutral spanish in that it is understood by all spanish speaking countries even though it differs somewhat from the spanish spoken in latin america much the same way that the american dialect of english differs from the english spoken in britain.

it could have been spoken in pig latin to me and it wouldnt have mattered. incredible story.

Ok - got the movie and watched it.

I thought there were one or two scenes that could have been toned down, but I'm never a big fan of graphic violence in movies. The story is really well done - complex parts to every character and interesting foreshadowing of the way it ends right from the beginning.

I do like that she disobeys the fairies a couple of times - sometimes being right in doing so, sometimes being wrong. There's no clear cut rightness there.

Oh c'mon... That bottle scene was fucking awesome.

I have never seen the movie, but a friend made me watch that scene because he knew "My fucked up ass would love it". He knows me well.
