Yay its income tax season!
Going to be doing a long awaited upgrade to my computer with my tax returns this year, since the 1.2 celeron wont handle most of the games put out this century, im curious as to what the top FPS games are out right now.
And what other people are playing. I just picked up Daoc, and it seems to have that feel Eq did when i started playing, and i got completly bored of WoW. but besides that what ar emost of ya'll playing.

To answer your question about FPS gaming, I think the recent games to garner the most attention and highest rankings in that genre are the following:
Call of Duty 2
Half Life 2
Star Wars: Battlefront 2
F.E.A.R.
I haven't played any of those yet, though I think CoD2 looks gorgeous on an Xbox 360.
Lately I'm bouncing between PC and console gaming.
PC gaming:
World of Warcraft (playing casually with mostly RL friends on Emerald Dream - I wanna get up to 1k gold in the bank, play the shammy to 60, and maaaybe get enough pvp ranking to buy the pvp mount...)
Knights of the Old Republic II
Warhammer 40k
Last but not least: building a MAME cabinet. Gonna host more geek parties at my new house and some 4p hawt arcade action will be fun.
Console gaming:
Guitar Hero
Dragon Quest VIII
God of War
Shadow of the Colossus
Final Fantasy X-2
Final Fantasy III (bought a used copy of FF: Anthology)
Jade Empire
Planning to buy/play soon:
Resident Evil 4
Ninja Gaiden (Xbox)
F.E.A.R.
Half Life 2
Kingdom Hearts II
Puzzle Fighter
So many games and so little time.

Well i will probally give vanguard a try.
about WoW.. i had 2 lvl 60 rogues alliance and horde, got my horde guy to rank 9 in pvp, and just quit... the game was just too easy, any idiot could play and do well, and there is just no community to the game.
Im not much into console gaming, cept for football games, mostly what i am looking for is comp games.
Burz, you play AA alot? Im curious as to the game play on it, is it slow or a fast pace, i really liked unreal due to the insanity of the game speed. But also dug CoD, and BF.

I play it occassionally (some hoebag that lives with me hax my account and plays more) when I have enough spare time (I really never liked popping into an online game for just 30 minutes or so - EQ syndrome!). It is kind of like BF. Has it's moments, but each round has a timer to complete objectives so it's not like crap will drag on. It does have a pretty steep and challenging learning curve because it is not a normal online FPS that is just run-and-gun rambo style fighting.Enrich wrote:Burz, you play AA alot? LEarning curve is huge.
Goodluck geting through the special forces finazl training mission with out pulling your hair out.
AA is fun though i enjoy it.
I would pick up Quake 4 before FEAR.
Fear is a great game but most of the FPS is moving to quake 4 right now since that is what cpl and MLG are pushing for the tourny's

That's why I love it. Also it almost mandates teamwork if you wish to win consistantly, which every multiplayer fps war style game should do. They physics have been pretty good for a video game (read shot/hit realism) although I think they kinda messed up frag damage radius in 2.5, but 2.4 was too large, somewhere inbetween would have been ideal. And don't get me started on the m82 breathe shake in 2.5, but then again it was way easy in 2.4. Used to be able to snipe everyone with it in under 2 minutes on Bridge Crossing if they weren't hiding behind the defense tower.Ginlaan wrote:LEarning curve is huge.

Alright, new comp is in. here is what i got, and i got some questions aswell.
3.0g intel processor
Gigabyte motherboard
1gig ram.. dual core or something like that
200gig seagate barracude HD 7200rpm (has bad sectors, using brothers 10000 rpm WD Raptor until my next one comes in)
Case, with 3 cooling fans, and ample power supply.
Vid card is a Gforce fx5500 oc.
Now, i bought and installed FEAR, but wasnt able to play it. apperantly my vid card is too weak.
Now, i have a few questions. Whats the best way to go about fully optomizing my system for games. Right now i have the standard up to date manufactures drivers installed. But im aware there isi alot more you can do to tweak it out a bit. If anyone would care tohelp a brother out, it would be most appericated.

Looking at the requirements for FEAR, you meet the minimum, but are below the recommended for vid cards. FX... I thought that was the mobile version of Nvidia's stuff. Is the graphics integrated into your motherboard?Enrich wrote: Vid card is a Gforce fx5500 oc.
