nVidia 7800 GTX released

On June 21st, 2005 nVidia released the 7800 GTX video card. This thing has 300M transistors on it (triple that of the AMD Athlon FX-55) and consumes less power (under load) than any of the other high end video cards out there at the same time outperforming all of them by quite a margin.

Benchmark numbers from Anandtech.

Quick performance numbers for Battlefield 2 running 1600 x 1200 with 4 x AA
7800 @ 53.4 FPS
X850 XT PE @ 39.6 FPS
6800 Ultra @ 27.9 FPS

HL2 (which strongly favors ATI) @ 1600 x 1200 with 4 x AA
7800 @ 119 FPS
X850 XT PE @ 100 FPS
6800 Ultra @ 70.4 FPS

And on top of that, the card is available right now, this wasn't a paper launch. Pricewatch.com shows 3 distributors with it, the first one I clicked on had the card for $599 and in stock.
