I thought Sony was always boasting that they owned the most popular MMORPG out there (Everquest), but according to http://www.mmogchart.com/ Lineage has surpassed it by quite a ways.

WoW is whatever you make of it. Some of it you have to group. There's is something for everyone, even the hardcore but a lot of it fits the casual player. That is what I like about it. I can play it my way. I played EQ my way but it had it's limitations. The heavily addicted EQ profile can't see past their addiction. I'm over it. I'll never go back.

Lineage = a MMORPG that all of south korea and probably chunks of china play.
Lineage2 was released in the US but the way PVP was applyed is horable and last I knew was no PVE servers.
Worst part of lineage 2 was if cleric wanted to be an ass he just let tanks pull and fight and not do a thing so does not get argo when group dies loot what stuff party drops and jet...

I played a shaman. Kunark was good to me. I just hated the way the Vision was used to justify bugs and poorly thought out design decisions. "We meant for it to be that way" wears pretty thin when things are obviously broken. The glacial rate of change never helped, either.Araden wrote:I wouldn't say that the Original Vision sucked.
What sucked was their inability to adapt to changing times. Rangers during kunark, could count the number of 55+ rangers on during prime time usually on one hand. Verant just chanted "Vision TM" at us. Eventually changes started getting made. But it was ridiculous that it took so long to fix. Rangers weren't the only class that got screwed during kunark by the vision, but it's the class I'm most familiar with.
Of course I don't really think SoE is much better in this regard but at least they're willing to take a look at data and try to fix things... every time a competitor product is about to be launched. Who knows, mebbe Brad McQuaid would have too.
I think the competition has been great for SoE. They know that if they don't stay competitive and innovative now, they're toast.

Absolutely. Their responsiveness to most issues in EQ2 (not all - *cough* T'Haen *cough*) is a world of difference from their behavior when they were the undisputed leader.I think the competition has been great for SoE. SoE's current trend in EQ2 has been to recognize issues but only fix anything that benefits a player/guild, and do nothing with the rest.Yep, thaen defintely had issues that we're not happy with either.

Of course they do - SOE only counts numbers from the Americas and UK/Europe. The Far East is a different market, mostly because of language availabilty, but there is also a cultural factor.Burz wrote:Think they only count North American numbers.Taxious wrote:I thought Sony was always boasting that they owned the most popular MMORPG out there (Everquest), but according to http://www.mmogchart.com/ Lineage has surpassed it by quite a ways.
The Japanese game market (which influences most of the Far East) focuses on home-grown games (Konami, SquareSoft, etc.). Those games are always much more appreciated in the Far East because their themes translate better and are more in line with the mores (that's pronounced "mor-ays" for you less educated folk) of local cultures.
But in the US, SOE is biggest player with all of their offerings (whether good or bad).

Most EQ servers in the Far east are emulated anyway.
