Re: The Dark Knight
Slater is what? 45 now? He would do a better job reprising Jack Nicholson's Joker.

Why would you even try that? How drunk were you?

Re: The Dark Knight
Finally saw the movie. It was very well done and I was impressed with the depth that Eckhart gave to the role of two face. Ledger did a great job, but talking about an Oscar is pretty unrealistic. The only way he even gets consideration is due to the death, not because of the role and the movie he was in. A Comic Book movie just won't get that kind of attention from critics.

Re: The Dark Knight
just saw it.
Not much to say right away that hasn't already been said. I'll have to digest it a bit. But yes I did like it.
In batman begins they foreshadowed Dent/twoface by having the actor pop up in a brief scene. If I knew the batman mythos better I wonder what I might have noticed in this one. There was the prisoner with the fireball looking scar on one side of his neck and a gun tattoo on the other. If he anyone from the comics?

Possibly one of the henchmen of The Black Mask.. or maybe even Number One himself. I don't think its Hush, but it would be cool if it was.

Re: The Dark Knight
I liked the new Joker. I don't think Jack could have pulled off the "disappearing pencil trick" and made it work the same way. That whole scene was well done.

"Yes."

The pencil was an amazing bit. I laughed and was horrified all at the same time. Perfect Joker move.

Re: The Dark Knight
There have been Oscar nominations for acting performances before. Road to Perdition (yes, its comic book or graphic novel) had a nomination for best supporting actor. Same with Dick Tracy. And William Hurt got an Oscar nomination for his role in "A History of Violence", another graphic novel. Go look it up and try not to drool on the keyboard.Rsak wrote: A Comic Book movie just won't get that kind of attention from critics.

Re: The Dark Knight
Pardon my typo, but it should have said "Win a staring role oscar". Context should have given it away since the drool is happy where it is Embar.

Re: The Dark Knight
It wasn't a typo, and now you're just engaging in typical Rsakian nonsense. You said crititcs wouldn't take notice because of the basis of the movie (comic book). You are wrong... again... as usual.Rsak wrote:Pardon my typo, but it should have said "Win a staring role oscar". Context should have given it away since the drool is happy where it is Embar.

Embar if you choose not to see the truth when it is in front of your eyes then you opinion does not matter. The sentence does not make any sense unless there was a typo and I acknowledge that, but if you are so bound and determined to prove your worth by measuring it against someone on the internet go right ahead.

Re: The Dark Knight
Ok, I finally saw it. Holy friggin cow. That rocked ass. I think what I enjoyed the most about it was that it wasn't gimmicky and "just for laughs" like Burton's versions. I mean, Burton opened the door, I'll give him that. But, Nicholson's Joker paled in comparison to Ledger's. The Burton films (and those following) seemed just campy versions. Oh, look, the Joker dances around and acts silly. Oh, Two-Face, he's such a ham. The Riddler, yeah, funny guy. Penguin, how cute! Catwoman, blah blah blah.
The Dark Knight versions? You're really freaked out by these guys. They aren't just monologues full of make-up and goofy antics. The Joker scares the holy frack out of you. You laugh . . . nervously . . . yes. There are amusing moments, but not at the expense of the integrity of the story and its characters.
I wish there had been more Harvey Dent / Two Face, but I understand their reasons for letting that character go.
Rumor has it that they are approaching Johnny Depp to play The Riddler in the next one. Not sure if that's worth much at this point.
I loved all of it. Bat gadgets rocked. Story rocked. Villains rocked. Commissioner Gordon rocked (and why wouldn't Gary Oldman rock?) Alfred Rocked. Morgan Freeman rocked. Nice transition into the next film--the bat hunted.

Re: The Dark Knight
I think they were. Jim Carey? tommy Lee as Two-Face? They were caricatures of themselves and were only "weird" or "sarcastic" for the sake of "show." Penguin was just gross to be gross w/o little character or care, which came across as "oh, neat, let's all go EWWWW when the Penguin eats raw fish.. hee hee."
I just didn't see the Burton gimmicks in the Dark Knight version(s). I like darker better.

Re: The Dark Knight
That was Batman Forever, I think that was one of those in-between Burton (he did two) and these darker ones.
I totally agree with you on the old-campy ones (tim burton or not) vs. the graphic novel style ones.
