I was able to solo this entire quest with my 54 Monk in a hair over an hour (got a Spirit of Eagle right before I headed out, and it was wearing off as I was handing in bag). This was in the first nights of fabled too, where Warsliks Wood was heavily camped for the drop etc. Maybe I got lucky. I had done it already once though with my Necro, so knew exactly where to go for drops, etc. But I still can't imagine it taking 10 hours, and not completing it. Oh well, sorry for your frustration.
