The physical block thing really intrigues me - there's just so much stuff that could be used for.

The AI starts to pick up in the late 30s / low 40s with rogues that will actually hide from you, soldiers that will knock you back, and some ability that will daze you. Those things can really fuck you up when dealing with multiple mobs.

Indeed. Three tanks in a hallway, a ranger and nuker behind them and a healer behind them all... my understanding of the physical block is that the mob has to get through the tanks before it can hit the people behind them. I don't know, however, if spell hits can jump the line.

Yeah, that'd be interesting if you could organize that. There are few places I've encountered where three people are enough to block off the entire space though.

In a raid, I wonder if it would be possible to form a ring of tanks and have the healers and casters in the middle.

Mostly in the dungeons, where you can stuff a tank in the doorway, and pull the room from there.

When you hit level 28 or so, go to Black Castle and have an AoE fest there. It's lucrative experience, the mobs don't hit that hard, it's a really tiny zone, and the respawn time is only two minutes or something. I grinded 30-33 there in about two hours, I wish I would have known about it sooner. If you are like me and hate doing quests, this zone is very refreshing.

I certainly hope they fully thought out the rules for this. As a D&D player I can tell you that zones of control like this can really be game breakers which is why D&D never implemented it and instead used feats like Hold the Line and Large and In Charge to accomplish it but only for creatuers larger than a human.

For instance.....how would something like this work against a creature with reach......like a Giant......or a Dragon. Hopefully 3 human sized opponents cannot stop a giant from getting to attack the second rank.

My understanding of the game (as a non-player) is you can break the block using momentum. Even if they didn't implement reach, a dragon or giant would more than likely have the momentum to just plow the tanks out of the way.

It's kinda neat when you think about it and opens a lot of new strategy, but I pity the poor game devs who must have had to deal with it.

One of the most important Stats on equipment is Knockdown defense. High level NPC have multiple kncokdown spells, usually two. One for regular use and one for when its target is inaccessible. So they did think of the Wall tactic. It is viable, but you need tanks with high Knockdown defense, from what i've seen it's not an easy stat to raise. I do know Guardians with a certain spec can increase their groups KD by lowering movement speed. This is the spec i'm trying out first so we'll see how well it works.

I can't remember which tank class it is, probably Guardian, but one of them gets a feat that allows them to not be knocked down. My KD is really the only thing that saves me half the time in PvP so it's kinda imba IMO.

What is the level cap in the game? Is it a good thing that people are almost level 40 after 1 week?

There were reports of people geting to 50-60 three days after launch, although it was suspected an exploit was involved.

Yeah they got banned from what i understand.
I don't see anything that makes me immune to KD. At the end of the Feat tree there is Juggernaut that says it greatly increases all resistances so I have to assume that includes Knockdown resistance. Should be fun to PvP with my spec: Speccing for improved KD resistance for whole group and chance for all group members attacks to Knockdown. Along with Juggernaut should make for some nice PvP.

The assassin class has an immunity from knock-down. It only lasts a short time, but its one of the skills the class can train.

probably not what you are looking for but heres a Funcom statement
http://forums.ageofconan.com/showthread.php?t=56425
we have raid dungeons in our game with loot to match the effort. Kyllikki’s Crypt, Yakhmar’s Cave and The Dragon’s Lair are all awaiting visitors.
After that, when you feel ready, the massive Black Ring Citadel bids you welcome.
