Miscellaneous Landmark Info

Anything you mine or gather on one server will remain in your inventory if you travel to a different server.
New feature: Devtalk. Hitting a key will bring up Devtalk mode, where different parts of your screen will be highlighted/overlaid with notations discussing the developers' plans for each part. At the bottom of the screen will be a link to the forums, for discussion. Devtalk will eventually be expanded to cover direct communication with the developers. Both developers and players themselves will be able to leave notations, which will work kind of like stickynotes.

In addition to the map, there will be a compass and other navigational aids, particularly for finding your claims.

You will be able to unlock items that will permit fast travel, including to your claim. These are called “ley lines”.

There will be no combat in alpha.

There will be some crafting in alpha, but it will not be feature-complete.

Hey #EQN Trailblazers! Heads-up.
64-bit OS is highly suggested for Alpha.
64-bit lets us access all your memory. Alpha isn't optimized yet.

"64-bit OS is *required* for Alpha. Sorry, folks, but the 2GB RAM we can access via 32-bit OS isn't enough for Alpha."

"Yup. 4-8GB RAM is fine. (4 = min, 8 = suggested) Again...this is an *alpha* spec. We're working to lower that."

This game sounds like it's going to be amazing, but it almost seems like too much shit at once. Like I'm wondering just how big the learning curve is gonna be.

Will there be wipes during Alpha or Closed Beta?
Yes. While we will do everything in our power to minimize wipes, it is important to note that Alpha and Closed Beta are testing periods. Unexpected behaviors of players and technology may occur, requiring us to roll back or delete data during these periods. However, you will never lose access to items that you have purchased in the Founder's Packs as a result of a wipe.

We are currently planning the following wipes:

End of Alpha Wipe

Timing: Occurs at the end of Alpha testing, which begins on or before 2-28-14
Character: Your character and all progression will be wiped.
Claims: Your claim(s) will be wiped. All claims will be templated so that you have blueprints of what you built.
Resources and Collected Objects: All resources and collected objects will be wiped.

End of Closed Beta Wipe

Timing: Occurs at the end of Closed Beta testing, which begins on or before 3-31-14
Character: Your character and all progression will be retained.
Claims: Your claim(s) will be wiped. All claims will be templated so that you have blueprints of what you built.
Resources and Collected Objects: All resources and collected objects will be retained.

Georgeson .. sales surged after the satisfaction guarantee was offered and that "when [SOE] dropped the NDA, [sales] went nuts."

He added, "Once people realized we were proud of our creation instead of hiding it behind a fence, it took a lot of the 'considers' and convinced them to try it."
Combat will be at either the very end of alpha or the start of closed beta. The main hangup with that system is that mobs cannot be introduced into the world yet. "The thing that's stopping us from putting monsters onto the game is that we do not yet have pathfinding code written that works with changeable voxels." In other words, monsters can't just follow points on a path, so a whole new AI server has to be in place to handle calculations on the fly, allowing mobs to move around on ever-changing terrain.

Additionally, once liquid is in the game, players will be able to drown as well as burn in lava. On top of that, falling damage will eventually ensure that players will get hurt if they jump off a mountain without having a grappling hook or gliding. And the ability to slide up mountains will be a thing of the past once those mechanisms are put into place.

This actually looks interesting. I may have to give it a shot at some point, although I just don't really have the time anymore for MMO's. Damn adult stuff getting in the way of fun.

We are changing the name of the game… literally. The game is no longer called EverQuest Next Landmark. We are now just Landmark.

Okay, so let’s talk about Closed Beta and what you can expect. Closed Beta is going to be similar in nature to Alpha, but it will be a longer phase with some of the major features being introduced in to the game. We’ll be adding Combat (which includes damage, death, and risk), the crafting overhaul we’ve talked about on the forums, Player Studio, caves, water (both static and dynamic), loot (heck yeah!), SOEMote, a journal to track your progression, achievements, collections, an improved map, salvaging, guilds, ley lines, pvp, and more! We’ll be updating The Blueprint (formerly the roadmap) regularly so that everyone knows our plans and priorities!

We haven’t announced a date for Open Beta yet, and we won’t until we have everything in the game we want and we’re sure we’re ready for it. As soon as we know though, we’ll make sure you do too!

Also, we’re going to start running some contests/competitions in Landmark soon! Keep an eye out on our social channels, LandmarkTheGame.com, and the forums, and we’ll be releasing details soon!

old news but worth knowing

http://www.eqhammer.com/article/everque ... highlights
When you start playing Landmark, you'll pick a character and customize it. You'll also be able to play an Adventurer class right from the get-go. Your (landmark) character can transfer over to EverQuest Next at launch. Georgeson explained that this would allow players to familiarize themselves with a class and prepare to multiclass from day one of the EverQuest Next launch.
http://www.forbes.com/sites/danieltack/ ... d-builder/
How will the integration work between games? What will you be able to take from one title to the next?

Players will be able to bring a Norrath approved parcel from EverQuest Next Landmark to EverQuest Next. There is some questing/tasking involved to get a plot of land and other details involved, but players will be able to bring elements in. Players will also be able to take their “Adventurer” class from EverQuest Next Landmark over to EverQuest Next.

“When you go to EverQuest Next from EverQuest Landmark you have access to all of your templates from EverQuest Next Landmark – But only the ones that follow the art direction of EverQuest Next can be used,” says Georgeson.
