Since hearing of the rampage, Tierney has been trying to figure out why Loughner did what he allegedly did. "More chaos, maybe," he says. "I think the reason he did it was mainly to just promote chaos. He wanted the media to freak out about this whole thing. He wanted exactly what's happening. He wants all of that."

I guess our definition of "the system" is different. I thought we were talking healthcare system......not the world in general. I again say.....where was his family?

You want some balanced discourse on this topic? Read this.
I know this is disappointing to politicians and the media, but sometimes the story just isn’t about you. It’s about the people who were shot, and the person who shot them.

Think about this. Jared Lee Loughner was fixated on Gabrielle Giffords since at least August 2007. You might recognize that date as occurring approximately two years before the Tea Party existed. When he had a chance to finally interact with her, he asked her a question about grammar. Grammar.

He’s just crazy. There’s no larger story here. There’s no there there.

Heh. That shameless huckster must have been praying there wasn't a link between the shooter and the unhinged rhetoric he spews daily. The last thing he wants to do is reflect on his contribution to society. That would be bad for business.

Kulaf beat me to it.

Where was his family? If Jaro thinks the "system" failed him, does that mean Jaro thinks Sarah Palin is part of the "system" that should have taken care of poor Jared?

The Palins and Becks and Limbaughs of the world, while doing nothing to further non-hyperbolic discourse (same as the Maddows and Olbermans), had as much to do with this incident as Grand Theft Auto game series has to do with car thefts.
Correction Mr. President, I DID build this, and please give Lurker a hug, we wouldn't want to damage his self-esteem.

What are you babbling about?

That article was written by Stu Burguiere. Did you even read it? Did you go the Weekly Standard article that was linked in it?

Yeah, I didn't think so.

For those of you claiming that the vitriol is equal on both sides....

Ann Coulter wanted to poision a Supreme Court justice.

Glenn Beck publicly spoke about choking Michael Moore to death.

Find me one....ONE MSNBC host who wished to visit death on a right wing propagandist or a Republican politician.

Otherwise, you're spewing bullshit because you can't bear to admit that you've let the crazies run your party.
Well, it’s the Super-Monroe Doctrine: “Get off our oil, people who dress funny!” - M. Bouffant

"You're a bad captain, Zarde. People like you only learn by being touched, and hard. And you will greatly disapprove of where these men put their hands." - M. Vanderbeam.

I read it. So what? My comment had nothing to do with that specific article.

I was commenting on Beck and how he wouldn't want to reflect on his rhetoric because it would hurt his bottom line.

Personally I can't believe the crazies who are parishioners of this board.

Seriously, you guys are sickening. Has this weekend taught you nothing?

It certainly has taught me. There's hate on both sides of the political spectrum, but sometimes crazy is just plain crazy.

Partha wrote:Glenn Beck publicly spoke about choking Michael Moore to death.
Glenn Beck wrote:"What would people do for $50 million?"

"Would you kill someone for that?...I'm thinking about killing Michael Moore...I could kill him myself, or if I would need to hire somebody to do it,...No, I think I could. I think he could be looking me in the eye, you know, and I could just be choking the life out. Is this wrong? I stopped wearing my What Would Jesus — band — Do, and I've lost all sense of right and wrong now. I used to be able to say, "Yeah, I'd kill Michael Moore," and then I'd see the little band: What Would Jesus Do? And then I'd realize, "Oh, you wouldn't kill Michael Moore. Or at least you wouldn't choke him to death." And you know, well, I'm not sure.

So apparently the bar is that you cannot joke about it.....so with that said:
Chris Mathews wrote:"You guys see Live and Let Die, the great Bond film with Yaphet Kotto as the bad guy, Mr. Big? In the end they jam a big CO2 pellet in his face and he blew up. I have to tell you, Rush Limbaugh is looking more and more like Mr. Big, and at some point somebody’s going to jam a CO2 pellet into his head and he’s going to explode like a giant blimp. That day may come. Not yet. But we’ll be there to watch. I think he’s Mr. Big, I think Yaphet Kotto. Are you watching, Rush?"
And just for good measure:
Bill Maher wrote:"I have zero doubt that if Dick Cheney was not in power, people wouldn't be dying needlessly tomorrow....I'm just saying if he did die, other people, more people would live. That's a fact."

Maddow wishes death on some unamed copy person, without being responsible enough to find out if they were right wing or not... shame on her...calling for death on some poor working schlub and endangering the lives of schlubs everywhere.
On Sunday, she told New York magazine, "They may get a lot of page views for that, but I think they would have gotten just as many page views if they had redacted my address and considered my safety and privacy. Whoever at Curbed decided the actual address and floor plan was necessary to get those page views, I hope they die in a fire."

Kulaf and Embar,

I know you're just responding to what Partha asked and we could spend all day coming up with examples from both sides, but we're dealing in false equivalencies at this point. The rhetoric on the right, from the politicians and the media talking heads and the rank and file members, is more heated and inciteful than what we see from progressives. It was clearly evident during the 2008 campaign and it's just as true now.

And while I'm certain that people like Palin and Beck don't want violence and they don't really believe the government is a threat that warrants armed rebellion - they are after all just hucksters duping the rubes for profit - it's not unreasonable to ask that people on all sides reflect on the rhetoric that's being used.

And how did Conservatives feel when there was a popularist uprising in the 60's among liberals? And how many people lost their lives to liberal groups bombing recruitment centers etc? Every now and then political movements take an ugly turn.....but you don't cast a wide net, you focus on those doing the violence.

Barack Obama wrote:“I will be happy to see the Republicans test whether or not I’m itching for a fight on a whole range of issues,” Obama said last week. “I suspect they will find I am. And I think the American people will be on my side on a whole bunch of these fights.”
Barack Obama wrote:“If they’re successful in doing that, they’ve already said they’re going to go back to the same policies that were in place during the Bush administration. That means that we are going to have just hand-to-hand combat up here on Capitol Hill.”
Barack Obama wrote:“If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun,” Obama told the audience. “Because from what I understand folks in Philly like a good brawl. I’ve seen Eagles fans.”

Barack Obama wrote:“I don’t want to quell anger. I think people are right to be angry. I’m angry.”
Barack Obama wrote:“I know they [the special interests and lobbyists] are gearing up for a fight as we speak. My message to them is this: so am I.”

So, let's see.

Embar found one. Matthews. The others do not fit the criteria, since Maher is not an MSNBC personality and Maddow did not wish death on either a Republican politician or a right wing propagandist but an unnamed person. Then, of course, they all went straight to the 'joke' thing and wanted to deflect to adding politicians.

Yeah, keep running. Do we REALLY want to expand this to hateful rhetoric from Republican politicians? Because you won't win that one, no matter what website you pull talking points from.

Why are you limiting it to MSNBC talking heads Partha? Is this about your hard-on for Fox? Seems to me if you're gonna talk about throwing stones, you'd want to talk about more than just MSNBC.

Partha...it had nothing to do with you being a liberal, and everything to do with your original approach in regards to talking about this topic. I even happen to agree with you to a degree, but seriously dude, get over yourself and stop jumping to conclusions.
