VMWare 7 is pretty awesome so far - they've got the D3D driver good enough to play games in now (which helps for those old games that won't run on Win7 x64) and it even handles Aero pretty smoothly. I'm not trying to say that the VPC that comes with Win7 is bad, just that VMWare has more features. I would die without my trees of snapshots (for example).

Can't say anything much about VirtualBox but for the brief time I tried it, I haven't gone back.

I keep looking for a reason to switch to VMWare. Someone told me that it utilizes a multi-core CPU better but I spent some time looking at how Windows 7 load balances the VMs and it's very acceptable. Windows 7 also does Aero glass fine for Vista and Win7 guest machines. Haven't tried playing a game but I do get sound out of my VMs. They finally got the integraion right.

The overall performance is acceptable, but if I switch to something like VMWare it'll probably be for performance reasons or a feature I discover that I need.

@Ddrak: Can't VMWare convert a microsoft VM? Or is it that other one (virtual box?) ? I know that one of those supposedly can, and my next question would be: Can it convert the newer virutual machines from Windows 7?

Back on topic: Windows 7 is the bees knees baby - it's the cat's meow.

VMWare will convert a vhd to it's vmdk disk format. I would like it better if it could use a vhd natively though (did you see Win7 can actually boot from a vhd?)

I doubt there's any significant perf different between VPC and VMWare.
