PC gamer preview
http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/09/28/guild ... preview-3/
Dungeons, as in other MMOs, provide late-game fun for powerlevellers. But Eric doesn’t want to restrict them – and the bulging sacks of loot they contain – to the top end.
“We wanted to avoid the feeling that the game doesn’t start until max level, and that the game that you played to get to max level is an appreciably different game than when you are at max level.”

As such, dungeons are open from level 35, and the eight (dungeons) the game ships with can be played in two modes. ‘Explorable’ mode is for elite groups, people who’ve already mastered team fights and can take down the big boys. ‘Story’ mode is comparatively simpler, and comes with the weight of a plotline. It was this mode we played when our red and white T-shirted overlords took us below ground.

Underneath the city of Ascalon is a maze of catacombs. They’d be a nice place for some caving, were they not infested with vengeful ghosts. Ascalon itself was once Charr land (Guild Wars 2’s race of giant fluffy cat-men). In the game’s fiction, they were pushed out by humans, only to fight back some 200 years before the current game starts. The catacombs became the final resting place for stubborn human king Adelbern, who refused to surrender his land to the Charr – even when they threatened to moult all over his best jeans.

innovative queue system

http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/p ... ml#4766434
Elisabeth @elixabethclaire
#GuildWars2 overflow server system is swell. Rather than queuing to get the busy server you go to another & get to keep your progress/drops.
Let me explain what an overflow server is and what it does. It is a technology we also use as our version of a queuing system. When a map or a world you want to log into is at capacity limit, the game will ask you if you want to play on an overflow server - so you can actually play while you are in a queue. Once space opens on your world, the game will ask you if you want to join your friends on your world. And you keep all the progress you made while you were playing on the overflow server.

prepurchase FAQ
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/forum/pre ... ost1212248

https://buy.guildwars2.com/

http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/03/13 ... announced/
The Collector's Edition is going to cost you $149.99, but ArenaNet certainly seems to be providing bang for your buck: a 10-inch statue of the iconic Rytlock Brimstone and his sword Sohothin, a custom frame with five Guild Wars 2 art prints, a book on the making of Guild Wars 2, a soundtrack CD, and five in-game items (including a mini Rytlock), all of which should make this a pretty tempting order for super fans of the game.

The Digital Deluxe pre-purchase is only going to run you $79.99, and the Standard Edition will be $59.99 -- again, any three of those will secure you the Hero's Band, a place in beta events, and a three-day head start.

http://www.arena.net/blog/building-community
Let me point out the two biggest changes in the ways we interact with our communities between the original Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2 right up front: we will have official forums, and we will not have a traditional fansite program.

This does NOT mean we will no longer support all our dedicated fansites out there! We will continue to work with fansites as we have done in the past, but in addition to “traditional” fansites, we will also provide a platform to support smaller, specialized communities/projects that would never have had a place in a traditional program, like blogs, machinima, etc.

gw2 microtransactions
http://www.arena.net/blog/mike-obrien-o ... ild-wars-2
In Guild Wars 2 we have three currencies: gold, karma, and gems. Gold is the common in-game currency. Karma, which players earn in-game but cannot trade, is used for unique rewards. And gems are the currency that’s bought and used to purchase microtransactions.

We have a new player-driven market that allows players to trade gold for gems and gems for gold. If you want something, whether it’s an in-game item or a microtransaction, you ultimately have two ways to get it: you can play to earn gold or you can use money to buy gems. We think that’s important, because it lets more players participate on a level playing field, whether they use their free time or their disposable income to do it.

MMO veterans will note the similarities of our system to EVE Online’s PLEX system. As in that case, our system takes gold trading out of the hands of real-money trading (RMT) companies and puts it directly in the hands of players.

beta weekend details
http://www.arena.net/blog/the-beta-week ... -is-coming
begins on Friday, April 27, at noon PDT (GMT-8) and ends on Sunday, April 29, at 11:59 p.m. PDT (GMT-8).

The only way to absolutely guarantee your access to this or any future Beta Weekend Events is to pre-purchase any edition of Guild Wars 2.

Customers who have pre-purchased the game will receive an e-mail next week with instructions on how to download the client and participate in the Beta.

This is a public event, which means that you’re not bound by a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA). So go ahead, feel free to take screenshots, shoot video, blog, tweet, write, or compose a rock opera to share your Guild Wars 2 experience with the world.
