really great thread so far guys, I see we've all put a lot of thought and effort into it.
Everytime someone says "zomg your'e a lawyer" I giggle myself to sleep at night. Its probably one of the most satisfying things I can hear. No matter how stupid I appear to be to you, no matter how asinine you think I am, I have achieved something you either never could or never had the motivation to try for, so thank you.
So here is my review for No Country and why it was amazing.
Good art has a way of reaching deep down into your soul and showing you something very special. Its not that it shows you new things, but it makes you come to organize your thoughts more clearly. This is how I felt about No Country after I saw it. I was in a trance when I walked out of the theater. What is the "point" of No Country? The point is that there is no point to life, everything comes down to a coin toss.
We view the world as good or evil, and everyone always says good things happen to good people and bad things happen to bad people, but thats not how reailty is. One of the good guys dies, the other one doesn't have all the answers and is just as lost as the rest of us. The "bad guy" who we are supposed to hate and wish ill upon exhibits noble character traits like devotion to duty and devotion to a code of living. No matter what you may think about the guy personally (and obviously oyu are supposed to think of him as an evil psychopath) he follows his rules to a t, no exceptions.
Woody Harrelson's character also really reinforced this argument. I think they chose Woody because when the audience saw him we all subconsciously thought "oh, well he's a famous actor, he must play a big part in the movie!" Nope. Not. Wrong. He is in the movie for all of what? 15 minutes and then gets blasted? The casting of Woody threw the audience because we got something we weren't expecting. We wouldn't expect someone like Woody to meet such an ignoble end, especially when his introduction scene was so long and drawn out (the part where he was talking to the employer and they were talking about the bad guy).
This movie is like a bible for modern nihilism. Nothing really matters, one way or another you are going to die. And it could just be because you crossed paths with the wrong person, got into a car accident, or whatever, it all comes down to luck, aka the flip of the coin. So you might as well try and make out with a suitcase full of money, because you must take all the opportunities you can if you ever want to escape the trailer park.
I haven't even really delved into Tommy Lee Jones' character's role in the movie but thats for another viewing I think.
I hope that this post was up to your standards Harlowe. I'm sorry for all the confusion I've caused, but when I see silly posts like the OP I just fly into a rage. The way I feel about this movie is the way Embar feels about Jesus, I just want to shout the gospel to everyone and I get very defensive. I believe the kind of thinking in No Country will drive the next great social upheaval the way the Enlightenment or Christianity did, its that revolutionary (revalationary? lol).

The movie isn't the bible for modern nihilism, you obviously don't know anything about the author or his stories. Read his other works and you'll be a bit more enlightened. You are a nihilist and a chronic misogynist, so you look for that or rationale for it in whatever you see, because those aspects are what appeal to that part of your nature.
Cormac McCarthy is the person that wrote this story and many other profound and human stories like The Road, All The Pretty Horses, Child of God etc and you are gushing over actors and a movie that tells a story that you don’t get it at all.
The story was written by one of the most accomplished and prized novelists (Nobel, Macarthur “genius” grant) Cormac McCarthy who is absolutely not a nihilist. He’s a humble, shy, and very private man who writes about life and death and says things like “Life is pretty damn good, even when it’s bad”. He writes about these things not as a nihilist, but as someone in awe with the journey, someone that deeply appreciates life.
You know what you should be getting out of this artist’s powerful works? Straight from the horses mouth – “simply care about things and people and be appreciative…life is pretty damn good. You should be grateful.”

By the way, that's a riduclous statement, who is this "we"? Because I can't think of a single person that would view the world that way or say things like "good things happen to good people and bad things happen to bad people". Whether they are religious or believe in some sort of "Cosmic Karma" they would never believe that all good or evil happens to a person depending upon whether or not they are good or evil, at most people think you can increase the odds of good or bad happening in your life by your actions and beliefs.
I think I can safely say that most people believe the expression "shit happens" to be a relative truth and generally that people are neither all good or all evil, but are human and in being human, they have both good and bad within them. Those terms are relative anyway.

When I said people believe good things happen to good people and bad things happen to bad people I meant overall, I never once used all. I wasn't talking about a "shit happens" attitude, I think people generally do believe that everyday bad things are just random acts, but overall I feel people think that in a broad sense there is some order to things.
No Country for Old Men is a nihilist movie... you should go out and read something now and then. "Modern nihilism" "neo-nihilism" are all words that are regularly used to describe this movie.
