I wonder if the claims that Assad didn't authorize the use of chemical weapons - that it was wildcat officers doing it - are true. If so, I wonder if he's scared shitless that they'll get turned on him.

Would it surprise anyone that Russia can better manage a situation involving one of their allies? That would be like the world being shocked when the US asked Israel not to attack Iraq after getting attacked by scuds.

It will be interesting to see what Russia does, and how Obama responds. As it stands, Obama gave Russia the keys and the steering wheel. Guess its only fair since Russia took an off-the-cuff remark by Kerry, and transformed it into a political coup over the US. What's the saying? A drowning man will grab for a razor? Obama grabbed at this supposed lifeline Russia tossed him. Lets see if it works for the best of the world, or works for the best of Russia.
