OH MAN!

Post by israfels »

So I was thinking... can we just boycott her, an @$$hat like this just needs to be encouraged to quit. I know... A Norrathian Witch trial, or some caster group with her and bind her next to a mob PH and cause a death cycle... thinkin a nice old school zone where she could go below lvl 46. Then maybe JUST MAYBE that would even out the bullshit she has stirred up and gotten all over her hands. Just a thought, then again /ignore works good too if you have all her account names...

I always wondered if something totally insane like this would ever happen... Whoever Breezey's owner is, he/she is certifiably insane. I seen self-destruction here before, but threatening the board operator with a law suit is beyond belief!

The real bandwidth costs don't come from Breezey's little stunt.

The real bandwidth costs come when articles about great moments in history like this get /DOTed.

If you do have to sue, it would greatly amuse me to see Thoric be your lawyer.

Aahhh, sweet sweet justice.

And Dd, that would have to be a pretty awsome college conection. Most I've ever been able to pull is about 600-750kbps

I've been able to pull noncached files from other internet2 members in about 5 minutes, for a 600 meg iso that wasn't cached.

I don't think that racknine is on internet2 though.

Usually the same takes about 30-45 minutes from a non-internet2 site.

But it could be distributed? I don't think he is smart enough for that though.

Awea i think that Dd's point was that if you download something small like a website over and over again on a college connection that it will get cached in the proxy and you don't actually download it from the sites server unless you force a refresh.

I seriously doubt he even pulled 1G of data from the site in 30 minutes. That's around 600k/sec which no cable or DSL ISP that I know of is going to sustain over repeated http requests of less than 40k. More realistic options are :

i) He's lying through his teeth and just making shit up.
ii) He's in a college with a transperant proxy and managed to download 1G of data from his own college's proxy cache.

Dd
I think he owns/operates an ISP

Couldn't you use something simple like apache bench to request a fresh copy of a web page over and over and over?

The odds are pretty good that if you provide all of this info to "it's" internet service provider and they monitor customer's bandwidth use on an individual basis that "it" will lose "it's" internet connection. Unless of course "it's" paying for "it's" own T1, highly doubtful.

Exactly Ick. That and the fact that while you can download a single file (like an ISO) very quickly, retrieving a small files repeatedly is a *lot* slower because of the round trip requirements in setting up new TCP connections, sending cookies etc.

You could use apache bench but I would still be very surprised to see 600k/sec from small file transfers.

Excuse me for being skeptical but the actions of this person are just not consistent with a successful businessman - especially if they are using their own business to "get back" at a rant board for something as stupid as an Everquest character's reputation. They are far more consistent with late adolescence.

I think you give it to much credit.

Well, if it hasn’t made the decision to change servers and change its name then it just had that decision made a whole lot easier for it.

I predict this will make the Brell Rants board famous once again.

So if "it" could threaten Gnomore to fetch his password for him when he forgot it, can we bribe Gnomore with cookies to give it to us as a gesture of goodfaith and repentance for ebaying? I think its only fair that we as a community get some hands on one on one time, dont you? We could start a 'rent-a-chanter' service, adds could read "Be an ass for a day, Live the death spawn cycle, Endanger yourself needlessly, Live the EQ life you've always loved to hate, all without reprocusions to your own toons!" I could so see that making money.

Bah call the FBI i am sure that will humble them. A DOS.. doesn't have to be successful to still be A DOS.. they were bragging on their l33t H@ck3R skills... either way yes they are stupid. A shinning example of how low people bring themselves. If anybody knows them in real life Please let me know if they ever end up on the darwinawards. I have a feeling they may.

oh ya...

It can be done... but you would need more then one computer.... maybe they should have gone to http://www.2600.com/ or http://www.library.2ya.com/ orhttp://www.astalavista.com/ maybe this would even help http://network-tools.com/default.asp?pr ... .21.119.25 and i can't forget this http://www.eeye.com/html/ I mean if they are going to say they are h@ck3Rs then the least they can do is be a good little script kidde.

Yes you could. But the point that Ddrak was trying to make (and that I agree with), is that the numbers he (Breezey) quoted point to a cached proxy or something of the sort, and Breezey just being duped out of his own stupidity to think that he is flooding the server.

The overhead in an HTTP request, vs only 40k of payload data, just disagree with it entirely.

Assuming he isnt on some uber pipe or isnt doing it distributed. I'm sure relbeek knows the answer to whether Breezey is on a fat pipe or not, and his (Breezey's, not Relbeek's) proven intelligence in his posts here precludes him of being intelligent enough to use zombies (what little intelligence that takes).

Classic case of a phrase I heard (I think Relbeek said it actually, don't remember when though):

"Never fuck with someone on the internet that knows more about computers than you"

Breezey got owned here, really bad.

The perfect epitath for E-breezey 3.0.

So did the moderators ban him to prevent further self inflicted damage (if that is even possible)?
