Tying world-rending magic, customizable units, tactical battles, army-decimating heroes, godlike ancient beings who guard artifacts of unimaginable power, and more together within a Civilization-like framework has been a pipe dream for gamers of my ilk for years. Steve Barcia’s landmark 1994 opus Master of Magic planted the seeds nearly two decades ago when it defined the high fantasy empire-builder sub-subgenre, but its horrendous AI and total lack of balancing would never fly today. Still, that title had a powerful effect on the development of many gamers, myself included, and a number of attempts to recapture its magic have been made over the years.

Elemental: Fallen Enchantress (itself a reworking of Stardock’s 2010 disaster Elemental: War of Magic) checks off all the features that gamers like me have been longing after for nearly two decades. It includes a few intriguing new ideas of its own, and ultimately delivers on most fronts despite lacking the soul that defines true greatness.

I received this email because I had preordered their first game
Greetings!

My name is Brad Wardell. I'm the President & CEO of Stardock. Last Fall I wrote you to let you know about the free copy of Elemental: Fallen Enchantress that we had added to your account.

Since then, Fallen Enchantress has gone on to be very successful both critically and commercially. I can tell you there was a sigh of relief on that! Fallen Enchantress has provided a start that can now be expanded on as we take in your ideas and suggestions.

To that end, I am pleased to tell you that you will be getting a Steam key that will let you download the expansion pack to Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes.

Back in 2010 you bought Elemental: War of Magic, our first effort at making a fantasy strategy game and we weren't happy at the results. So we decided then that we'd give the next two "expansions" to the Elemental universe for free to those who bought War of Magic before November 1st. And so here we are!

The Steam key we will be sending you will give you access to the public betas of Legendary Heroes and the final version as well. You don't need to have Fallen Enchantress installed or even on Steam to use the Steam key. It'll install everything you need.

To use it, load up Steam, go to the "Games" item in the menu and choose "Activate a product on Steam". Then follow the directions and paste in the Steam key when it asks.

Legendary Heroes improves Fallen Enchantress in almost every way. Here are 5 major highlights:
• Champions are now acquired through fame rather than finding them on the map and
are leveled up through a skill tree.
• Tactical battles have been significantly enhanced with new mechanics and all-new maps.
• We've added a lot of new monsters to the world.
• "Huge" map sizes supported for really epic gaming.
• The graphics have gotten a lot better (it'll probably be the first thing you notice)

These are just a sampling of the changes. I have a video up on YouTube where you can listen to me nit-pick the pre-beta: http://youtu.be/-5ZwiQqFjC8

We'd like to thank you for being our customers. We hope you liked Elemental: Fallen Enchantress and hope you enjoy the Legendary Heroes expansion pack.

Have a great weekend!

Cheers,
Brad Wardell

Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes v1.2 patch
http://forums.elementalgame.com/446125
This update focuses on improving the AI at both the strategic and tactical levels. The top players have developed their winning strategies and their input was used to improve the decision making of the AI (special thanks to our Forum and YouTube subscribers). It has also learned a few new tricks and though the AI now receives fewer bonuses at the higher difficulty levels, it is more lethal.

The update also includes bugs fixes and balance changes to further improve what Game Informer called "The best fantasy empire-builder in years".

major patch 1.7
http://forums.elementalgame.com/456046/ ... d%2BMailer
Among other things, patch 1.7 includes:
Class-specific items – Commanders lead better than ever with unique banners, mages command the elements with new staves, and more

Significant AI improvements – AI rivals now develop their empires more effectively, for example through upgrading their outposts

Balancing across the board – Unrest modifiers have been tweaked to make sprawling empires less overwhelmingly powerful, and many unit and item stats have changed

Revamped army-strength logic – The method used for calculating army strength has been completely reworked, making evaluating threats easier for human and AI players alike
