Syncing Outlook with Mobile Device
Does anyone know of a good, preferably cheap way to sync up the calendar/tasks/e-mail on Outlook with a mobile phone, specifically iPhone5? The reason being that I've recently become a partner in a Money Service Business and I need a way to manage my time/e-mails while on the go (I'm still playing hockey, which keeps me on the road a lot). The phone was courtesy of the company, otherwise I would've gotten a windows phone or blackberry. The biggest problem I think is that the company doesn't use a dedicated server for it's mail, but rather has a web-based provider. I've looked at services like Dropbox, Microsoft SkyDrive, etc. but haven't really had time to compare them to whatever else is out there.
Ideally, I just want something that will keep my phone synched with my Outlook mail and keep me from having to re-read dozens of e-mails a day, or to make several entries in both calendars when switching from mobile to desktop. Any suggestions on what might be the best route?

I believe iTunes will.

Or if they are using Outlook.com:

You should be able to type in the mail server and your credentials (whatever you gave to Outlook) into your phone and have it sync this kind of stuff automatically.

Sorry Kulaf, I didn't specify that I want to be able to do it without having to physically connect to the machine where outlook is. So far, the only way I've found for it is to use products like skydrive, thus far. Our mail is hosted via our ISP, so I'm not entirely sure if it can sync up the way outlook.com and hotmail does. It is webmail based, so there really shouldn't be any issue. I'll have to check it when I get back into the office (sometime later this week, I hope).

Sign up with Outlook.com or GMail and get it to suck emails from the webmail service. Then use that account as your central repository. I think you can change the "from" address somehow too.

Yeah in the settings there are options to add more accounts. I have 5 (don't ask) different emails coming in through my gmail and it auto replies with the correct address, etc.Ddrak wrote:I think you can change the "from" address somehow too.
Was mainly laughing that you skip from iPhone to Blackberry / Windows Mobile while completely skipping past Android!Xican wrote:Don't you laugh at my love of all things non-apple Taxious!

I just switched off an iPhone to a Lumia 1020 (WP8). Loving it.
As for Exchange on iPhone: Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account ... > Exchange > Enter credentials > May have to enter server information > Should be done after that.

I'm jealous Fall, I want a Lumia so hard. We're on an extreme-savings-challenge right now, to see if we can buy a new car outright, so no extra spending for me.

I wanted off iPhone something fierce, didn't want to go to Android because it's practically the same thing, and I was eligible for an upgrade. Sold something I didn't use anymore (my Xbox) and went out and got a White Lumia.
All in all, loving the switch. Has all the apps I would need, plus I still have my old iPhone 4s 64GB to use as an iPod.

I've heard the camera is awesome on it, and lets face it - we capture waaay more things on our phones because we aren't lugging around a camera everywhere.

The camera is phenomenal. Still learning all the functions and everything, but its easy to just point and shoot and worry about everything else later. Definitely have plans on picking up the Camera Grip at some point.

They don't have interest-free financing still?Harlowe wrote:We're on an extreme-savings-challenge right now, to see if we can buy a new car outright, so no extra spending for me.

Re: Syncing Outlook with Mobile Device
Thanks for the advice, guys. I think we're upgrading all our stuff in the office to get Exchange in the next few months, which will solve everything. Until then, I'm probably going to just swap the iPhone for a Blackberry as it will automatically sync stuff, so that I don't need to spend 4 hours trying to clear out e-mails I've already read on my phone every time I login to my desktop.

Some companies are down in the 0-1% interest rate, but not consistently, and if you can throw 25 grand cash on the table, then you have the insurance related savings.Ddrak wrote:They don't have interest-free financing still?Harlowe wrote:We're on an extreme-savings-challenge right now, to see if we can buy a new car outright, so no extra spending for me.
