I figured Portland would be one of the first places to stop doing it because of the whole "consent" thing. The Netherlands hasn't fluoridated their water for 40 years. I wonder if/how that affected their dental statistics.

Are people up in arms about flouride causing health issues? I don't know much about it.

There were concerns because it's ingesting fluoride without a choice, but I don't recall conclusive evidence it was a health issue. I think their issue was basically "medicating" people without consent and people not having the choice between tap water that is or is not fluoridated.

Portland's motto is "Keep Portland Weird." They are just keeping up with tradition. Also blame the organic freaks. They threw a lot of cash into the anti-fluoride campaign.

This is the same town that kept a pedophile mayor even after two recall attempts.
