Btw, just added these 3 to my cardio playlist. Typically for cardio I like stuff that has a beat comparable to whatever reps I'm doing. So pretty fast. Lifting I like metal & angsty shit that makes me angry on the inside. Remember to curse & berate your weights. It helps :)

I don't wanna start a new thread because it's so emo, but I am going to talk about my health for a second and that's only SLIGHTLY emo.

So, I got cataracts. Yay! I had one removed yesterday. When they went in to transplant the lens, they noticed that I had some deterioration of the fibers that help hold the lens in place. No biggie during the surgery as they switched to a different type of lens.

The good news is that my eye is fuckin' AWESOME. Holy shit I can see. I can see the leaves on the trees and the little pebbles in the road. And the colors are so bright. Here's a great picture of how things were VS how they are now:

Image

My left eye is still crummy (they'll do that on the 31st). But what a difference.

The bad news is that they had to go with distance-only lenses which means that from 3 feet up to my nose, I'll need reading/transitional type glasses.

The super bad news is that the fiber issue with my eyes could be an indicator of Marfan Syndrome. Now, I wouldn't be worried if my mom wasn't suspected of having it and if my older brother didn't just have open-heart surgery to replace an aortic valve (due to suspected Marfans).

Even though initial screening for me (for Marfans) and an echocardiogram showed no real indication of it, the eye issue changes things a bit and my doctor ordered some genetic testing.

In short, this impacts the connective tissue in your body. If you remember Flo Hyman the volleyball player who died suddenly, she had Marfans.

Kind of scary. If I have it then my child has a 50% chance of having it.

If I do have it, it means I'll have to completely rethink exercise. Still possible, but I cannot work out like I used to (and like I want to).

Anyway, I can see, but yeah, my heart my explode. LOLS.

(Okay, I know that's not funny, but it kind of is.)

My mom had the same issue with her eyes and she's still going strong with no heart issues. I hope I'm that lucky.

I'm glad your surgery went so well Lu, that's awesome!! What an amazing difference!

For the second thing, I'm just going to pray for you (okay it's lame agnostic-chick prayers, but it's still good positive wishes out to the Universe) that it's not Marfans, just so you don't have one more thing to worry about. ((hugs))

I love lame, agnostic chick prayers. Honestly? I think a lot more would have happened to my body at this point if I truly had Marfan's. My brother, on the other hand, had some symptoms earlier in life and now the heart thing.

I figure I'm gonna live well, get the genetic testing and just do the best I can. I'm actually taking a Tai Chi class through the school this semester. I haven't taken Tai Chi in 6 years. I LOVED it back when.

Genetic stuff is scary. Hope the new lenses work for more than lighthouses too! ;)

Finally went January third and joined a fitness club and am getting regular workouts with a trainer. Probably won't update this for a while, I have about 18 months of work to do.
Sorry to hear about your leg bro. I know that feel. You should post though. Buddy of mine just dropped 80 lbs in the last year and a half & said the social pressures & praise from him updating was half of his motivation to continue. I typically encourage people to get some form of forum going, whether it be online or local community where they do weekly progress pictures. Most people would defect, change their names, and move to Antarctica before posting a relapse picture in public. It works.

And the flip side is the inspiration a big win has on people. A lady I know who popped out a kid last year (and got way bigger than she should have) dropped 63 lbs over the last year & has 5 other women doing the same thing just because of how amazing the results were. It's good stuff.
Ok, first update. 9 days in, 9 pounds down. Verified by my trainer. Made some lifestlyle changes (smaller portions, no soda being the big ones) and I've been mixing cardio and strength stuff. No, you won't get pictures - there is a reason.

After the first 15 lbs you should try to level it out at 2 lbs a week until you reach the target goal. Faster means you probably aren't building muscle at the proper rate vs burning fat. Good job though. Stick with it. Consistency!

Still a gimp. Only up to doing 130 leg press on that leg & 520 with both. My weakest is still the leg extension. Shit just doesn't work. Can only do 25lbs. It's sad. I'm ahead of the recovery process, but still feel like a giant vagina every time I try. Tomorrow is my 90 day mark, so I technically still have at least 6 months of recovery left. Just can't wait to get back in the swing of things.

My upper body is swelling up way too big. I'm trying to switch back over to focus a little more on cardio/lean muscle to offset. I already look sort of gorilla'ish and I don't like it at all. If I do get my feet back under me at this size I'll be useless in my sports activities.

It's a process I spose. Objectively it's going good. I'm just extremely impatient :) Thanks for asking Lulu

Minute - Quest is coming out with Choc Chip Cookie Dough protein bars (21g protein). I've never liked that flavor when other companies have tried, but I think if anyone can make it taste as awesome as it sounds is Quest.

Argh Minute. I have a knee is that is kind of crunchy I'm a little worried about what's going to happen to that when I'm an oldie pants.

Oh hey, I thought I mentioned this already, but don't see my comment here- but the Quest choc chip cookie dough protein bars are AMAZING. You have to be in the mood for a sweet though, it's too treaty to be a good meal replacement. It does taste like cookie dough, not Toll House cookie dough, more like a generic cookie dough, but cookie dough none-the-less. They are a bit moister than the other bars too.

Yeah, I got my box too. They are good enough that I left them on my monthly subscription. I was really surprised. The PB Cups were fucking HORRIBLE!

Something interesting that I just saw today, exposure to CO2 appears to cause weight gain, by interfering with the satiety system.

Now, it's a fairly well established fact that the length of your daily commute tends to directly correlate to your weight, with a number of factors boiled into it including a decrease in exercise time, the basic sedentiaryness of driving, etc, but you're also basically mired in a high concentration of CO2 during it, which can't possibly help either.

Maybe having the right potted plants at home in whatever rooms you spend the most time in is a good idea...

... seems like that is pretty reaching to me. Contribute? Maybe. But on any kind of real scale that matters? I seriously doubt it. If someone told me they were fat because they weren't around enough plants I'd poke them in their stomach & wait for the giggle.

Nothing replaces calories in < calories out for weight loss, no. But when every little bit helps...

Minute, I actually kind of liked the PB cup ones for dealing with a candy craving. I freeze them and have it with a coffee. But the novelty wore off after the first shipoment, and I've had the same box for a couple months now.

Blech. I seriously couldn't finish an entire cup. The aftertaste was rancid. Whatever gets ya through though. Those Choc. Chip Cookie Dough ones are plenty of sweetness for me.
