Yeah, the hit or miss continues. This week was decent.

Yeah. I hope the finale is just as good. I wonder why the fuck writers for these show can't maintain the pacing. They have to stick in teen crap as filler. This last episode was so much smoother. Reminiscent of BSG according to some sites which I like.

There is a cafe about a half mile from where I live. My writing group meets there once a month for critique, and it has a metric assload of board games for sale (and available to use for play). Awesome little cafe and it's always packed. Some of the games I see look pretty cool. The last time I tackled a bigtime board game was Pioneers or such. Geesh. Can't even remember.

As for Falling Skies. Bleh. I'd be happy if they killed off half the cast and focused the shit all on Ben. Everything else is boring the shit out of me.
Hey, speaking more of board games - Fantasy Flight is right here in MN, we went to their gaming center this weekend! Oh MAN do they have the games. There were at least 5-6 that I wanted to pick up, there were tons of people playing there too. Anyway, we just got the LOTR card game and an expansion (of which there are a ton) it's a lot of fun, so we haven't dabbled in Ascent or Pathfinder, since we've been playing this every other night. It's a great co-op game that works really well with two people playing.

We've been going to tons of Gaming (card/comic/tabletop/miniature) shops the past few weekends. Lots of fun! I can't believe how many of them are out there. We've been hitting 4 or so each weekend.

Harlowe, I'm interested in board games. I think my biggest concerns are:

1. I won't find people to play with. My husband is so not the board game type. Even cool-ass board games.
2. How much of a time commitment are some of these games?
3. How long does it take to get the rules down?

I never really got into the card games (like Magic: TG and such) but who knows. Maybe I've matured enough to give it a shot.

For Lord of the Rings - he read the rules once then we kind of went through the first game slowly, referring to the rules each step of the way, so that one took maybe 1 1/2 hours, after that, I'd say maybe 45-60 minutes for a quest (quest being one game).

I never got deep into Magic years ago, but now I kind of like it. Not in a "collect cards and make a serious deck" way, but when you use a premade Event deck or single color starter deck against another in the same edition - so it evens the playing field when you are up against someone with more experience - I think it's fun. My favorite combo right now is the blue/black deck I have, though I like playing with all blue as well.

We mostly play Monopoly, Risk and Clue. We'll get 6 player all-night Monopoly sessions.

Falling Skies lost us. I'd rather watch old episodes of classic outer limits (both versions), twilight zone (both versions), star trek (both versions), night gallery, etc. I've even got some eclectic TV series like UFO and Space: 1999 from the 70's. Some decent new ones are coming out too. The wife likes Alphas. A lot of good stuff to watch, and Falling Skies aint it ;)

We’ve been going through the Star Trek series. We’re still on Enterprise right now and I get still get irrationally pissed every time I hear the theme “Faith of the Heart”. Worst. Choice. Ever. ANY instrumental would have worked, not some freakin’ Michael Bolten sounding train wreck that was actually written for freakin Patch Adams!

We FF through it, so I can actually enjoy the show.

Zoe: Big damn heroes, sir.

That was awesome! He was absolutely the worst captain. It's like he couldn't flesh out the character to save his life. It's so stiff and lame. The only thing Enterprise has going for it (so far, I'm on Season 3) are some decent supporting characters (T'Pol, Trip & Dr. Phlox), better alien make-up and better special effects. Captain Archer blows.
