D-Bags

Post by Alluveal »

I don't know what's going on, but lately I've seen a startling amount of d-bags lately. I'm starting to think that either my definition of douchebag is widening, or, that there is some kind of wanker-dude epidemic going on. It's like someone took all the guys from "16 and Pregnant" and dropped them off in the general vicinity of my home.

Naturally, I thought I'd come here to get some opinions because if anyone is going to set me straight, it's all of you fine people.

So, I ask of you all. What is a douchebag in your eyes? The more specific you are, the better. If you are not from the U.S., do you have douchebags where you are? Maybe they're called something else? Do you think U.S. d-bags are different from the international d-bag?

Also, just for fun, what's a female douchebag called? I've wondered that for some time.

Everyone is focusing on the financial differences in this country, but the IQ gap is spreading even faster. Dumb douchebags are breeding like flies.

I think Minute pretty much nailed it. This is especially apparent when there is a lot of "progressive bullshit" mentality out there. Look at what the South is doing, you have religion and political views being forced into school's texts - teaching science and history with an ideological bent, changing history, clouding science, anti-intellectualism.

We're pretty much fucked. Check out the movie "God Bless America", it's a black comedy that pretty much parodies what a bunch of d-bags we're becoming. Schadenfreude rules our reality tv world of entertainment.

You guys may be right. Totally right. I'm just seeing so many assholes out there. Even the females. Last semester, I had this chick in my class. I'd definitely put her in the d-bag category, but she was also a juggalo which just makes it worse. She wanted to do a paper on how juggalos are not all losers. Funny that she didn't turn a single assignment in, then just stopped coming to class halfway through. Didn't drop the class either. Just let it all waste away to an "F." Glad she proved that her ilk are not poster children for abortions.

Did you like this movie? I kinda felt "meh" about it after I finished it. Seemed very preachy but where they had lost the message of the sermon.

It wasn't an awesome movie by any means (I didn't even finish it yet) but I think at least the first half, was a pretty decent parody of the ever increasing douchebaggery in America.

I don't think anything has changed. I just feel due to social networking we are exposed to, and talk about D-Bags more often.

They have always.......and will always, infest our lives.

I have to wonder if an older generation said the same thing about us as we were growing up...

I'm on the cusp of Gen X and Y. I have more "Y" tendencies due to an early injection of technology to my life. We have more information than we can actively process. We have turned to television and Facebook as our sources of entertainment. I remember laughing at a case study that revealed Spongebob Squarepants increased the likelihood of ADD/ADHD in children (Potential Source: NY Times)

I'm not saying Spongebob has increased the amount of douchebags. I am saying it does seem people are devolving faster and harder than when I/we were younger. It has somehow become acceptable to be ignorant and foolish. Older generations used to "weed out" those types of folks. Our younger generations get attention for it...even celebrated for stupidity.

You're not the only one seemingly surrounded by d-bags, Alluveal -- though you are, like the rest of us, living in a time when we have far more avenues from which to pull the definition of a d-bag. In fact, you even cited a TV show as a potential definition for "douchebag." These folks have always been around, just a light was never shone on them long enough for anyone to notice or care.

I think it has changed specifically because of those reasons. How many Jersey Shore clones do we have now because everyone is exposed to that shit. People in general are fucking sheep man & they soak that stupid shit up like a sponge.

Btw, Idiocracy is what nailed it, in a comical fashion, we just don't have the hindsight to see it. In 500 years we'll all be dumb as rocks & be eating Buttfucker Burgers.

This, plus the rise of Jersey Shore and other Reality programming has resulted in them being noticed more. "New haircut, Jagerbombs, etc" was either around the same time as Jersey Short start or slightly before.

On the contrary, I contend that if you wanted to be a well-rounded, educated person, this is the best time in human history to be alive. Everything you want is right in front of you to be educated on.

The biggest problem we have is that mass media prefers you to be stupid and programs accordingly, and most people either don't have the time or the energy to hack through the bullshit.

Bottom line...piss poor home training...Gone are the days when you lived in fear of an asswhooping from parents...which all filters down...There was a time when I was in school that if your teacher called home..sent a note or anything of the sort..it was your ass...Run off at the mouth at an adult who might happen to know your parents..it was your ass..etc etc...Now we're stuck with kids that say "go ahead..call DYFUS" or parents that don't wanna dicipline their children or wish to do it their way...A healthy fear of some kind of punishment always kept us in line..thats all gone..it needs to come back and fast..

Nuff Ced..

External indicators applied to subject="Douchebag"

The Bad Boy : Tribal Tattoos, Cocked Ballcap, Chinstrap beard, 'Bro' verbiage, TapOut clothes/interest in MMA
The Prestonian : Neutral polo tee, hair combed forward and flipped up in front, plaid shorts that go down to knee, drives a nice car, listens to dave matthews
The Shock Rocker: Gauges in ears (not too big though), V neck shirt to show off collar-bone tats, wears a vest over said shirt, optional fedora hat and converse shoes. Talks about metalcore alot (scream, pretty, scream, pretty)
The Hipster: Unusual facial hair not appropriate to age or clothes style, random clothes from goodwill that don't fit, always look like they're posing for a photo-op (think Zoolander face)

Jagerbombs showed up slightly after Red Bull came out, roughly 2000 or so in the US. Jersey Shore didn't premier until 2009. While you're spot on with your douchebag analysis, let's not get carried away like these things they celebrate are "new" things.
