Jack Reacher

Post by Minute »

Ok, just want to send out a big WHAT THE FUCK! Come on man. The 6'5 built like a tank with blue eyes & blond hair Jack Reacher is going to be played by the 5'6 getting old & fat Tom Cruise? God damn it, why does Hollywood have to fuck up EVERY book series? I don't get it. I mean if you take a book series that is already sold 11tybillion copies you know you have a winner. Why fuck it up? And the fact that they are just jumping right into like book 5 to start? Fuck This Movie. And even though I'm sure it was just a pay day, Fuck Lee Child for letting them skull fuck his work.

It's the 9th book, but it probably doesn't really matter where they start, all the books are pretty standalone. I agree that Tom Cruise doesn't feel like Reacher at all to me, he's just not physically intimidating like I feel Reacher is supposed to be.

I'm waiting for the new movie based on the Robert Crais books. Pike and Elvis will be played by Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker.

Ya, the physical differences are extreme but even the character doesn't fit. Reacher is extremely calculative. It's like reading a huge chess game only with live action characters. I'm guessing it's all just payday material for Child at this point anyway. I mean, Reacher was like 40 in book 2, so that dude has to be getting way up there. He shouldn't have jumped up like 5 years between the first two books. Remember that Lulu, if you ever write a book series start your characters young for future potential.

Minute, I think character age can really fuck up a good series if there are too many weird leaps. The Dune chronicles, for example . . .

First three books were all in Muad'Dib's lifetime (Dune, Dune Messiah, Children of Dune). Then bam, you're like 1000s of years in the future with God Emperor Dune, then the next, Heretics of Dune, you're even further in the future (10s of thousands of years), and by the last book, it's like "Why the fuck do I care. You just keep re-cloning Duncan Idaho, but who the hell are the rest of these blokes?"

I like how GRRM deals with age/time. Each of his books seems to cover (roughly) a year. It makes it nice for the HBO series and we won't have to worry about "the kids" aging too quickly. Arya is what, 12, by book 5? So, the actors will age along with them.
