Re: SOPA
This is really awesome to see so many sites go down (or at least say something). Google, reddit, wikipedia, imgur, and even a couple of my message boards I visit regularly all have something on them about it. Hell, even League of Legends has a prominent link when you log in.
My facebook feed is littered with people posting about this, I'm glad it's finally getting some attention!

Re: SOPA
Just noticed Craigslist did as well. One thing I wish I was suprised by, is the number of clueless people that say shit like "well if you don't do anything wrong this won't affect you" derp. Sadly, this was mostly coming from women.

Re: SOPA
You know I have yet to see any of the sites protesting say "Hey, you know there is a definite problem with folks pirating. Unfortunately SOPA/PIPA go too far. Here is what we recommend." Nope, all I hear is, "waaaaaaaaa, waaaaaaaaaaaa," some nerd rage about how its OK to steal other people's shit because it costs too much, "waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, let's take our ball and go play somewhere else."
I get it. SOPA and PIPA are shit legislation. But this whole episode is a perfect example of why nothing productive gets done in this country. Worse, it seems that the only time our elected officials agree on something is when it is something most of the rest of the country would never get behind.
And I still say FUCK GODADDY for making a complete reversal with no explanation. Obviously they saw something good about the legislation at some point to support it. I don't know if there was a baby in that bath water, but if there was it got run over by the great internet 24hour black out of 2012. Fortunately I have been sick for two days and didn't even notice that these sites went down.
Finally I would offer a suggestion for these grand protestors of bad internet legislation. How about donating one days operating cost to the 70% of the world population that don't have internet and didn't give two shits about your fucking petty nerd rage fit.

That's completey irrational, non-sensical and ill-informed. You haven't begun to educate yourself on this, your repeated "nerd rage" comments make that abundantly clear.
Using your logic, if people don't have a solution to an issue, they should just sit back and let bad legislation pass.

Every site's anti SOPA/PIPA page I've read so far has something exactly like this. I'm assuming you are trolling since you just made such an idiotic post? L2Troll at least...Torakus wrote:You know I have yet to see any of the sites protesting say "Hey, you know there is a definite problem with folks pirating. Unfortunately SOPA/PIPA go too far. Re: SOPA
Come on, Torakus. That's simply not true. Hell, there's even legislation proposed that does a very good job of hitting the actual issues. Unsurprisingly the MPAA/RIAA oppose it because it allows an actual adversarial process instead of ex parte decisions.
Of all the sites, Ars probably summarizes it the best: http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/news ... piracy.ars
Your "suggestion" at the end is just plain stupid. It's far more properly directed at the supporters of SOPA/PIPA - perhaps the $100,000,000 they've spent buying off elected representatives would be far more properly suited to direct at those 70% instead of trying to make end runs around the legal system?
Pretty sad when even Pirate Bay makes a more informed argument that you.

Re: SOPA
There were a lot of articles like that. He makes some great points, when you weed out the unconstructive snark. The good thing about these acts is that they bring attention to a shitty bill. A lot of people knew nothing about it, so anything that helps bring attention to any shitty legislation to the point people start asking questions, is a good thing imo, because there are a lot of shitty bills out there.
I think the larger issue is that we not only have a lot of shitty legislation being put forth, we have politicians voting on it without bothering to educate themselves about the issue, listen to expects or know the breadth of what they are voting on and aren't really being held accountable for it. Some think it's cute how technologically inept they are, like it's an adorable folksy quality. The larger issue is also that we don't pay attention 99% of what law makers are even doing and far too many people have no idea who to contact, nor how to contact them, or even choose to take the time to do something.
As far as yesterday's "stunt" it was pretty successful (for now)

Agreed. I thought Wikipedia's blackout was done well. Signing some Google petition was bs, but putting a tool forth to find & contact your representatives was good stuff.Fallakin Kuvari wrote:Maddox says it best, lol.

Re: SOPA
I definitely like the idea KTWO is proposing and doing it collaboratively makes a lot of sense. I didn't see it mentioned by ANY of the big sites participating in the Great Internet Black Out. I also like what Ars put forth, its just stuff I didn't see before the black out. If stuff like this was out there it is the fault of my limited surfing (other than porn). Lastly, TPB's statement is just more of the same crap. "We are stealing because the big movie guys got their start that way." No you are stealing because you are cheap pricks. Based on their logic it should be ok for me to illegally hook into SDG&E since big electric essentially stole their means of distribution originally.Ddrak wrote:Come on, Torakus. Re: SOPA
Come on - TPB isn't stealing because they are cheap. They are doing what they do (which is more like pointing people to the stolen car dealerships than actually dealing) because there's a shitton of money in it. You see how much the Megaupload guys were making?
If anything, I think this whole blackout thing was more a play from Silicon Valley to show that they're controlling the message now, not the traditional media companies. Essentially, Google + Facebook + Twitter + Wikipedia > MPAA + RIAA.
