Skyrim

Post by Harlowe »

I'm loving it...I lost my entire Sunday to it and the only reason I won't be on it when I get home from work today is because I have a Puscifer concert to go to. Luckily, my guy is just as enthralled so we're feeding this new addiction side by side in geek central at home.

I can't really compare the quality of storyline with the Morrowind (and it's expansions) yet because I'm not far enough into it - due to the ability to just explore all the pretty and do an assload of side quests - but I love the game-play and it's gorgeous. Totally fulfilling on all gaming levels right now.

I was worried because Oblivion was so console-centric that the interface blew, the characters looked like cavemen and nothing engaged me so I just lost interest, but there isn't anything that sucks so far in this release (other than I don't have enough time to play it). It's gorgeous, and it's fucking fun.

I'm generally not one for single player games, but debating picking this up. I haven't heard anything BAD about it yet (other than the time sink thing). I guess there are 300 hours of content, just going from the start of the game to the end without doing any side quests?! Damn.

I snagged a copy of this and haven't had much time to play it... what I have played I've absolutely loved.

Mine's on the way from Hong Kong. Screw paying US$115 for a game.

What's the Hong Kong price?

I'm planning on picking this up. I loved Morrowind and Oblivion. Everything I've heard about Skyrim seems positive, too. I can hardly wait for all the mods to come out!

Skyrim Sales Exceed 3.4 Million Units in Two Days
http://www.vgchartz.com/article/88459/s ... -two-days/
2011 is fast becoming the year games debuted at incredible numbers, as The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim sells over 3.4 million copies at retail (not including digital sales) in its first 2 days on sale.

Up over 600% on Oblivion's modest 490k staggered opening across PS3 and X360, Skyrim will manage to outsell Oblivion as a whole in a matter of weeks. 59% of units were sold on the X360 (over 2 million copies) and 27% on the PS3, with 14% on PC.

2.5 million of the total sold in Americas, with the remaining 950,000 units in EMEAA.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has managed to beat out Gears of War 3 and Fifa Soccer 12 for first week sales, and is on par with Battlfield 3, but with only 2 days sales it's selling at a faster rate. Only Modern Warfare 3 will be ahead of Skyrim, which, for an RPG, is incredible.

I paid like....$56 incl tax I think. I have a Target debit card that takes 5% off then it also came with either a $5 or $10 Target card.

You and me both Xican - I can not wait for the mods! That's what kept me picking up Morrowind over and over again for years.

Around $55-$60, so usually no real advantage over specials in the US. Australia is just expensive as shit.

I'm playing it too for the PC. Seems like it was made for the X-Box, which my son is playing it on. Other than the user interface being a little clumsy it's one hell of a game. So far everything about this game seems first rate. They did a really good job on it. It's totally addicting too.

The nice thing about it being made for xbox is if you have the xbox 360 PC controller you can plug it in and it automatically switches controls over. I moved my laptop into the living room and am now playing on my tv.

The funny thing about playing on my TV are my wife's reactions to the Dark Brotherhood questline.

Oh man, this game is so addictive and there is so much to fucking do. I just got my note with the black handprint on it "we know what you did" (no spoilers please or hide them!)...and it was like, fuck yeah, I love this game.

I play it on the PC so I'll be able to add mods, but we do have an xbox controller that I can plug in. I should try it that way and see if I like it better. I'm kind of WSAD-mouse person for rpg games though.

I HATE SKYRIM! It goes against my style of play.

I tell myself I will travel from Point A to Point B to do this quest. Walk walk walk Oooooo, a cave. 30 minutes later I am back to my original plan. Walk walk walk Oooooo, some ruins. 45 minutes later I am back on the path. Walk walk walk *Sigh* another cave. Ok, one more dungeon dive then back to Point B.

I have 34 hours of game time and I STILL haven't reached Point B!

I shouldn't be having this much fun not getting to where I planned to go.
Mal: Seems we got here just in the nick of time. What does that make us?

Zoe: Big damn heroes, sir.

Mal: Ain't we just.

I like that it's non-linear. I don't have to stick to the "rails" and I can go off exploring, pick-pocketing, etc.

The AI is the best I've seen in a video game. I was using that dragon voice thing in the dining hall blowing off all the silverware from the tables. It's amazing that something so simple had such a reaction from the NPCs around me. One said "oww my ears" and then a guard came and asked me to stop. LOL!

Why do you say this? I'm really getting close to picking Skyrim up but was planning on getting it for the PC instead of the 360...

I've never played any of the Elder Scroll games, but it seems like everyone and their mom is on this one, I'm feeling left out. The fun part of MMORPGs to me is the MMO part and not the RPG part, but I guess this game goes far without the interaction.

The controls are designed for an X-box controller, not a PC keyboard & mouse, and it shows. It's just a little clumsy but it's not a deal breaker or anything. And the really important things like inventory, quest journal, spell book, etc., all have keyboard hotkeys, which does help.

But don't let that scare you away. The controls are a little clunky but the game is so awesomely awesome that if they changed the user interface to morse code I would probably still play it. It's that good.

And besides, one of my son's X-box controllers might mysteriously disappear. Can they be used for the PC as-is or is there a special PC-only version? It never dawned on me to try to connect it to a PC.

You either have to have a USB one or the wireless desktop connection thing that allows the PC to pickup the wireless signal of the controller.

Ahh, I think he only has the wireless ones. Then I'll probably just fumble through with the mouse and keyboard. Thanks, Fallakin.
