Re: Four months
You could have just admitted you screwed up on what the Democrats were saying about Social Security, but you didn't.
You could have put an honest list up about what's working against the Republicans and Democrats, but you didn't.
There's plenty of issues going into the election. I just don't see the benefit of discussing them with someone who fabricates half his original post and then spews out the sort of absurd list you did.
edit: And you never take responsibility for what you post and you almost never directly answer a question. When caught spewing bullshit you just deflect, deflect, deflect.

Re: Four months
Then don't if thats how you feel. Personally, I think you're here more to score personal points than discuss real issues. People are gonig to post things you disagree with. People are going to disagree with your interpretation of an issue. But you tend to not let go of things once you've said your peice, and you miss the opportunity to leave that part of the discussion behind and move on to other parts of it. Just because there's part of a post you don't agree with... does that make the whole of the post untouchable to you? If so, its a pity. You're as mart guy, I like trading ideas with you even though I dont agree with most of them. But hey, if you can't get over things, that's ok too. I can respect that, while disagreeing with it.Lurker wrote:You could have just admitted you screwed up on what the Democrats were saying about Social Security, but you didn't.

That's just his debating tactic. He locks on to one thing from your post like a pit bull on a 10 year old and won't let it go and tries to make you spend your time defending it.

Wow... talk about projection.Embar wrote:Personally, I think you're here more to score personal points than discuss real issues.
The issue isn't that you said something I disagree with. It's that you said something, repeatedly, that was demonstrably and factually wrong and then refused to admit it. It wasn't a matter of opinion.
On the stimulus for convicts and dead people affecting the Democrats in the upcoming election... well, that is your opinion. I just find it an incredibly stupid and telling opinion. And again, instead of owning what you posted you are deflecting.
Embar could have just admitted he screwed up and moved the conversation to a larger point. Instead he tried to deflect and deny. I'm not going to move further into a discussion with someone who isn't honest. When I post something that isn't true I admit it. He should try to be more honest and own his mistakes.Kulaf wrote:That's just his debating tactic. Why should I go out of my way to prove something to you if you'll state something as a fact and never prove it to me?Lurker wrote:Hey, it's the wingnut!Fallakin wrote:Were you living under a rock back in March/April?Lurker wrote:or are so insignificant that nobody's ever heard of it. Can you link to some news stories from March/April about stimulus going to dead people and convicts? What percentage of the stimulus was involved? Do you really think this is going to affect the election in November?

Re: Four months
Are you talking about the Founding Fathers engaging in political horse-trading thing?
I'm sure it's not that you couldn't find news articles from March/April, or that the news articles you did find from last year made it clear how small and meaningless the "stimulus going to dead people and convicts" issue actually was, or that I was right about it having zero impact on the upcoming election.
Nope... it wasn't any of that. You just won't answer cause you are still upset about the Founding Fathers discussion.
Heh. Pretty funny.

Re: Four months

Just so everyone's clear, Fallakin was wrong. This wasn't an issue in the March/April time frame. It wasn't even an issue when it was reported last year that a few thousand out of 52 million stimulus checks went to people who were incarcerated or dead. Almost nobody has heard of this and it certainly isn't going to be a factor in the upcoming election.
That this item made Embar's list and the board wingnut thinks you'd have to have been living under a rock not to have heard about it is very telling.

Yes, I had my time frame wrong.Lurker wrote:

Otherwise you're being completely dishonest. This did get some pretty big coverage locally(here) and nationally on some networks. Embar is correct that it could be an issue (although minor, imo), but only if people remember that it happened since it did happen last year (deceased in spring and inmates in fall).

Re: Four months
Really? So in the Cops thread when you continued to try to misrepresent what I was saying no matter how often I kept pointing out you were wrong with previous citations, you admitted you were wrong? Funny I don't recall any such thing.Lurker wrote:Embar could have just admitted he screwed up and moved the conversation to a larger point. Instead he tried to deflect and deny. I have no issue with you using that debating method.....but I find talk of honestly disengenuous.

Re: Four months
Every single person who posted in the Cops thread "misrepresented" your position apparently. At the end we reached some sort of agreement on what you were trying to say. Anyways, when I make a factual error I admit it. I've even pointed them out on my own.Kulaf wrote:Really? But when you state things as a fact without any evidence you continue to state them as a fact.

Re: Four months
Back to the original topic, and I know Lurker won't want to participate (I respect your decision to not want to participate Lurker), but what do you think the Dems and Reps have as strengths and weaknesses moving into November?
For the Dems, the answer is clearly jobs and the economy. This has largely been a weak recovery from the recession, and it has also been a mostly jobless recovery. The Dems will have to explain why spending billions of dollars have seemed to get us no where, whatever your thoughts on the stimulus spending are. The Reps will focus on the fact at the current rate of job recovery, it will be a very very long time before we get back to the 5% unemployment range. In fact, if history is any guide, we'll probably go through a couple more recessions in the meantime.
Dems are caught between Scylla and Charybdis... they want to increase spending to stimulate the economy, but are afraid of doing so because of the political backlash since so many Americans see deficit spending as one of the biggest threats to America (and rightly so). Main Street issues haven't been addressed adequately by the Obama Admin. More foreclosures, more bankruptcies, more unemployment and underemployment. All easy targets for the Reps to attack the Dems. And the healthcare isuues, which hasn't been embraced by the American populace yet. Its a big hill for Dems to climb.
But...
The Reps are adrift right now, searching for an idenitiy. They are pulled by forces that want to drag them to the social right, and the fiscal right, and sometimes those two forces aren't pulling in the same direction Also they have Steele, who is in a gaffe contest with Biden (who has been getting better in the statesmanship category recently). And they have the Palin albatross. She's a whackjob, but she appeals to certain less informed elements of the Republican party. Finally, they have the Tea Party movement, which isn't cohesive, has no real leader, and is split on many factions and idealogies.
Should make for an interesting election cycle....

The GOP is trying really hard to look as disorganized as the Dems looked in opposition.
