Pretty interesting article. Solar erruptions that can knock out electric grids, fry your cell phone, ground flights, etc.

We're so dependent on technology as a society that I don't know how most people would function if their iPhones or DirectTV went any length of time without working. Most solar activity doesn't have a direct impact on the general public, but that's more luck than anything.

At least the topology and redundancy of the Internet is very robust. It can route around almost anything that's damaged. If something knocks the Internet out, we're probably all dead anyway.

I'm not very smart, but haven't scientists been promising us the OMG SOLAR FLARES OF DOOM for ages? Just like the second coming, it's not something I'm going to hold my breath for. And besides, we're a pragmatic society. If solar flares jump to the front of our collective psyche, then the technology to mitigate it won't be far behind.

And worse case the stupid Sun fries all our shit and sets us back 100 years in technology, well, I can hunt and fish
