Student Loan Overhaul Approved by Congress

I can't find anything too bad that outweighs the good. The only thing I'm cringing at is that my school's financial aid office would now handle more responsibility, because they are horribly incompetent and many of them are not on the same page when it comes to their own policies.

Any different thoughts?

Weird... I didn't even know that the government helped out private banks in those types of loans. I assumed it was all privatized to the bank that offered the loans to students. So anyway, I'm glad to see this change - it makes a lot of sense IMO.

To quote Biden, this was a big fucking deal, too. Clinton had tried to reform the loan program when he was in office but was blocked by the Republicans. We ended up with a hybrid system that led to rampant corruption from the private lenders.

Removing private lenders from the equation was such a no-brainer. On the one hand it's amazing it took this long. On the other, it's amazing Obama and the Democrats found a way to overcome the powerful banking lobby.

I'm having a hard time understanding why people hate this aspect of it.

I was working the register and I heard my boss talking to a pharmacy student who hates the loan changes. (Why? I have no idea) He mentioned to her that I was a student who was happy with it. She ended up suddenly not being able to give me a ride that night. I suspect it's because I liked the loan changes. I lol'd.

I think it happened because it was bundled with something bigger and "scarier" that took people's minds off it.

I'll never understand stuff like this. It's fine to have political views but to hate other because of something petty like this just makes no sense to me.

I was reading about how some of the politicians that voted for the latest health care bill are getting death threats and shit now. WTF... who cares that much??
