Perdido Street Station
This novel rocks. It has it all. Extra-diemsntional predators that eat your thoughts, vampyres, beetle-headed humans, magic, science fiction, politics between demons and humans and a large dimension jumping spider. And all the main characters are seriously flawed and incredibly rich in development. I highly recommend it. It's been out for quite some time, so many of you may have already had the pleasure of reading it.
Correction Mr. President, I DID build this, and please give Lurker a hug, we wouldn't want to damage his self-esteem.

Hmmm. A friend lent it to me a year or so back. I loved how it started, but because of other RL stuffs never got around to reading past the first 50 pages or so. I might have to go pick it up from him again.

I have no idea what your tastes are, Embar. What else is on your "uber like" list so I can get a feel?

Really, I'm all over the map. The reason that I liked Perdido Street Station though, in addition to some damn fine storey-telling and rich characters, was Mieville's ability to mix so many genres into one story. Punk, science fiction, goth, dark fantasy, hell, even romance.. its all there, served up in some very flawed and very endearing characters. You even feel for the low-life assholes in this story. I liked it because it was one of the most original books I've read, a real page turner, and totally engrossing. it was a delicious 700-pager mind candy.Alluveal wrote:I have no idea what your tastes are, Embar.
