I think Ddrak nailed it.I don't have a problem with people being allowed to spend money for private medical treatment outside a single payer system (unlike the Canadian and UK system), in fact I think it's healthy for it to work that way as it results in more money entering the system, but I do think you need a single payer system as the base option. Insurance simply doesn't work for the consumer otherwise.

Agreed. Unfortunately we can't get there in this country. Even the moderate reforms Obama proposed are railed against as a government takeover that's going to kill us all.
