*Spoilers possible*
I really, really should have looked at Rotten Tomatoes before I saw this shitfest. Holy crap this movie sucked ....it sucked so bad it pissed me off because there was some promise at the beginning with it's solid supporting cast, it's stylish visuals & atmosphere, but pretty much the entire cast, all called in their parts - with the possible exception of Emily Blunt, but the screen writing was so awful she had nothing to work with. The plot felt more mangled than the unfortunate villagers on the moors.
Like I said, the visuals and atmosphere were there, but one thing horribly wrong was that the wolves looked more like "Teen Wolf" than anything remotely scary. I seriously wouldn't have been surprised if Benicio Del Toro hoped on top of a carriage to surf. Speaking of Benito, other than the meandering, schizophrenic and boring plot development, he was the worst thing about this movie. Benicio was awful, painfully awful. It's as if they grabbed a homeless junkie off the street and gave him 5 minutes to read his lines.
Another big problem with this "horror" film (which probably should have been a campy retelling of the original) is that there are absolutely zero chills. It relied on the cheap B-movie method of silence to sudden attacks and growls in an attempt to startle you. Sure you're startled, but it's not a scared startle. It's the same annoying startle that happens when you know that second blast of air is coming at the eye doctor, but it still makes you jump.

Re: Wolfman
I'm a horror movie wimp and those stupid startles do scare me even though I know better. At least I won't have to feel bad about missing this one if it's so bad!
The bf is going with his brother because he loves monsters (and we know how unintentionally campy the old ones are) and Victorian themes. I hope that salvages it for him.

Didn't your mama ever tell you not to tango with a carrot?

Re: Wolfman
Poor directing. Say what you want about the actors but imo actors "act" and directors "direct". If you aren't getting the performance you want from an actor you shoot until you do or you fire the person and get someone new. Everything about this movie screamed bad director. The music was uninspired and did nothhing to add to the tension.....the visuals sucked, the makeup sucked.....it was just all around bad.
