Re: vista?
I ran windbg on it (that was the output I posted above). The other utilities on that thread have to be run on the actual machine, which was something I wasn't going to put Calleagh through because they get kinda esoteric and technical, at least until we ran through and removed a few of the higher suspects.

Re: vista?
Calleagh, try AVG once you get this Avast stuff sorted out? It's a decent free one - good enough that it should prevent any problems the average user might encounter. It's not *that* intrusive, either.

Re: vista?
I found the free one from MS pretty good - better than AVG. Nice comparison of AV products here: http://www.av-comparatives.org/images/s ... ry2009.pdf

Re: vista?
I was looking for a decent comparison site, thanks. I haven't had any problems with AVG, but I'll still check it out.

Re: vista?
well i downloaded latest version of avast and it still tells me there is an error during product uninstallation. i am so ready to pull my hair out.
select i am more than familiar with avg but i don't care for it. i want an a/v that fits these conditions: must be able to turn it off at will, must be free (yeah i'm cheap), and must be as unintrusive as possible.

This makes it sound like your computer has an STD. Windows Vista, the Crabs of Computing.calleagh wrote:my computer is exactly 2 yrs old and, against my better judgement, it has vista. to be fair, i've not really had any major issues with it but last week i got the BSD. i figured it was just a fluke. a few days later i got the BSD x3.
