Re: Dragon Age: Origins
Some of the dialogue in the major plot scenes can have drastic effects. Choosing not to destroy the forge will get you golems in the final battle (I assume, anyway, I'm not at the final battle on that playthrough yet), and slaughtering the elves gets you werewolves. Every character has a "crisis point" sometime in the game that will cause them to try to kill you or leave the party, as well. I made the mistake of having wynn and leliana in my party when I defiled andraste's ashes to get the reaver specialization - two vs. five was a challenge.
Being a dick is a lot of fun, honestly. Just make sure you have "evil" companions in your group.
As far as the DLC... Shale is a badass. I'm nearing the end of my mage playthrough and shes at 500+ health. Also requires pretty much zero gear and you can make her do more damage to certain enemies by changing the elemental type. Oh, and she likes killing people for no reason - excellent for an "evil" character. Warden's keep had a lot of neat gear and the two skills you get were pretty good.
Anyone have all the achievements done? I'm at like 50/87 or something like that... the not dying ever is going to be a hard one.

No golems in final battle. Final battle you get mages, dwarfs, elves, and redcliff. The only ones I ever used was mages for when the dragon bounced all over the place.

If you're looking to game the system you can always save before you do something bad, like defiling the ashes, get the unlock, and then reload and it will still be unlocked. You can do it with books that unlock things too. Save, buy the book, reload and you're not out any gold.

Hahaha niiiice, Bahd. I'll keep that in mind for this new playthrough.
So you can't ever get golems or werewolves by messing with the system?

Save gold? Does the redcliff gold exploit no longer work? You could get hundred thousand in about 15 minutes.

Re: Dragon Age: Origins
You get werewolves if you slaughter the elves.
You get golems as well as dwarves if you go with the Branka option and let her make them. They kick serious ass.
You get templars if you let them slaughter the mages in the tower.
I think Redcliff is the only one that doesn't change?

Re: Dragon Age: Origins
I know on PS3/360 you can duplicate cash by selling your "junk" and pressing sell all junk and the regular sell button at the same time. If you hit it just right, it sells both items twice and you just buy it back. Highest item I found was the hammer the guy in Denerim sells for like 325g and it sells for 32g or so, so you can dupe it up to 600 gold or more in a few minutes. Not that you'll ever need much more than about 1500 in one play through.

Re: Dragon Age: Origins
Have not played it in a month or so, but iirc if you send the tavern guy off to fight (intimidation) the chick will take over and she will sell you some random shit for free (buy her whole inventory). Then you run down to the blacksmith (have to unlock him first) and sell everything you got from the chick and repeat.Select wrote:What was that one? I hate farming money in games.Save gold? I know they never patched it for consoles because it still works on my friend's ps3.

Re: Dragon Age: Origins
Thanks, Burz. I'll try that once the RAM gets in. My first half-play through, I made him do a discount on drinks. He was hard to persuade. Does he die in the fighting?

Re: Dragon Age: Origins
The best thing gold can buy you is experience - I always blow all my spare change on the redcliff emissary. I think my last playthrough I dropped 300g and it got me nearly 2 levels... maybe more, maybe less, I didn't do it all at once.
The golems are pretty badass. I haven't used the werewolves or the mages yet. The humans are essentially cannon fodder, but the dwarves are ok... especially if you convince the legion of the dead to fight on the surface.
I wonder if the redcliff gold glitch works on PC.

Which 3? I haven't gotten any of the combat ones yet. Those and half the talent ones are all I have left.I am missing 3 achievements

Possible endings, 250 damage in 1 hit, and I forget the other. Haven't played in over a month.

There's an achievement for each ending, and 1 for getting all of them.UltraBurz wrote:Possible endings, 250 damage in 1 hit, and I forget the other. Haven't played in over a month.

250 dmg is stupidly easy if you play a Rogue. Just go archery and you get a skill that will make you do like 600+.

Re: Dragon Age: Origins
I finally got around to installing it on the comp and starting a game. I like the UI much, much, much more than the XBox UI, but I hate the movement controls. I always hate them with a keyboard. I *may* get a controller for the comp, but we'll see.
Also, I think with the XBox, your character would auto-target enemies when they attacked? (Been a few weeks) The PC version doesn't. Anyone know if there's a way to change this? I didn't see anything in the options.
The little crosshair for selecting an attacking enemy is a pain in the ass, and while it looks useful for splitting enemies, their range is much greater than my own. But then again, I'm in the Fade, having just started a new mage so maybe the range is just because I'm currently unskilled.

Re: Dragon Age: Origins
Hrm. That could be it. I keep thinking tactics aren't in effect for the character you're playing since you're controlling it.
Also, anyone know if as a mage you can kill the blood mage douche at the start and prevent Redcliffe? I'm doubting it, but I'm curious and not at that point again.
