Re: New Moon
My friend Jon summed up both well: One of the most depressingly old-fashioned and misogynistic pieces of literature I've ever had the distinct pleasure of lambasting. Kristen read the first book for kicks: it was WORSE than the movie. And not nearly as unintentionally hilarious!
I've heard stories from friends about people laughing when they weren't "supposed" to.

Re: New Moon
The misogynistic claims are made more about the portrayal of the relationship between the girl and guy. The vampire aspects aren't the biggest misogynistic part. I'm not really sure what you're trying to say there with the feigned surprise.

Pretty much the entirety of vampire "lore" is dominance of women. Hence my feigned surprise at a vampire movie being viewed as misogynistic. It's like going to a Friday the 13th movie and complaining it was too violent.

Re: New Moon
Yeah, which is why I'm 'wtf' at you. The relationship in the book can be transported to other genres and it would still be misogynistic. It's the relationship itself, not the vampire thing.

Re: New Moon
As for the Twilight series, I haven't seen the movies. I remember being at Barnes and Noble and browsing the first page, thinking, "wow, she is getting paid to write like a 12 year old." It was rather depressing. And I thought Terry Goodkind sucked a kong-sized donger. Apparently, I hadn't read this chick's hack yet.

What's depressing is that I'm dying slowly in a society that has just made this hunk of crap the highest grossing opening for any movie EVER. You could not pay me to watch this fucking thing. I'm an alien, that's all there is to it. I simply do not fit in with the obvious majority.

Re: New Moon
It made that much by catering to the lowest possible denominator... Rich emo tweens. It's sickening, but I have to admire the marketing prowess behind it.

Xican's right. I'd also throw in the 'naive and escapist at the expense of being rational'. But I suppose that is the definition of 'tween'.

Re: New Moon
Why are you commenting broadly then instead of asking?
Edit: And the fact that I had to clarify that simple idea twice to you means you were stupid about it.

Why did you quote broadly instead of specifying? If you had said WHY he found it misogynistic then I wouldn't have bothered to even post. But your lack of specificity garnered my comment.Select wrote:Why are you commenting broadly then instead of asking?

Apparently the above 'why' wasn't enough for you.The misogynistic claims are made more about the portrayal of the relationship between the girl and guy. The vampire aspects aren't the biggest misogynistic part. I'm not really sure what you're trying to say there with the feigned surprise.
