Alice in Chains - Black Gives Way to Blue
First new album in something like 14 years, since the death of Layne Staley.
It's a good album. It doesn't have that intensity that they had with Staley, but it's still the same band. Same weird keys and wicked sounding riffs.
Probably one of my top 2 or 3 bands of all time. Not the same without Staley, but it's good enough for a die hard fan.
The song Check my Brain sounds like it could be one of their classic tunes.

I love Alice in Chains, so I'm definitely checking it out. Of course they'll never be the same without Layne Staley, but hey ..remember how good AiC Unplugged was and he had a hard time contributing to that.

You can play a couple singles from the album at http://www.aliceinchains.com. It comes out tomorrow I think.
Yeah, Unplugged was an incredible album and Staley was so high he could barely sing.
They also have a box set called Music Bank if you don't already have it. There's a couple unreleased tracks (the last two that Staley did when the band was going to reunite) and some early demos.

I actually wasn't anticipating it too much, but honestly it's a great album.

Thanks for the link, Free. Never listened to them much, but I can give it a try now.

Re: Alice in Chains - Black Gives Way to Blue
I'm not too big of a AiC fan, but a friend of mine played 'Wish You Were Here' for me and I started opening up to them. I'll probably check their new stuff out here soon.
So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell,
blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?
And did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?
How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have you found? The same old fears.
Wish you were here.

Tax, you should get ahold of the Unplugged DVD.
Best thing AiC did IMO. The acoustic version of Nutshell = win.

Pink Floyd is probably number 1 on my all time list.
Hell yeah, Unplugged was awesome.
Here's a link to a version of Nutshell. It's not the official one off the album but I like this one.

EDIT: ...or is this the official version?

I dunno about official or not, but that song is pretty relaxing. I just zoned out for 4 minutes, thanks. I've heard a lot of these through Pandora, but so far I'm liking the acoustic versions.Freecare Spiritwise wrote:Here's a link to a version of Nutshell. Although i dislike Coheed and Cambria...
You should definately check out their "Unplugged" video.
Look for "The Final Cut".
EPIC ACOUSTI-ROCK.
